definitely keep us updated with pics and such.
good job.

Here's some pics !!
first is the redrilled rotor and hubring
mounted behind 18" BSA's
factory 16"
just some items to show, the cut made into the axle housing for the bracket
welded on
the welder
ebrake mounting brackets with new holes swapped side for side and inverted thus allowing for use of the stock e-brake cables just using a short extension made of aluminum
and just a teaser--- 12" vette rotors going on the front !!
I can make this setup available for a g/p of 5 or more (complely TIG welded or just the brackets)
rough costs right now: mounting brackets $50 pair
welding $50
your axle or a $100 core(refundable with yours shipped back)
new hub bolts $5
redrilling your rotors $20
hubrings $20
e-brake extensions $20
box for shipping $15
axle can be shipped by ups for approx $30
rotors and calipers from a G6/ Cobalt/ Malibu- www.car-part.com good prices
thanks
16" stock rim
p.s. the stock 15" spare does not fit
now I just need to take it apart, clean, paint and reinstall it into the car !!
Wow, nice work man..

Very cool!
Shipping axles around is gonna be hella-expensive though!
Wow... That is pretty sweet... This looks much better than the neon swap IMO...
Knowledge about everything and yet an expert of nothing!!
Jack of all trades.
Here's the e-brake cable extension. Keeps the cables the right length and keeps the cable away from the strut
this is from the inside- using the stock j-body hard brake line, shortened, to the stock cobalt flex line, also the stock cobalt cable holder modified with a 90* bend down. Nice neat and easy to work on- pad change in less than 5 minutes!!
Final pic. painted and ready to install axle back into the car

Pardon me if this is an ignorant question. Couldn't you get Neon rotors, or rotors of the same dimension as the Cobalt, that already have the 5x100 pattern?
I bought a pair of srt rotors just for fun, yes they will work, but, they are not quite as thick- but I don't see that as a problem- just check for pad wear. Secondly, the rotor has a flange on the back side for the parking brake that needs to be removed on a lathe and a 1/4" (approx) hub to axle spacer would need to be used, thus no redrilling the bolt pattern
wow man...amazing work!! nice to see people out there going above and beyond!
Looks good. However, I'd like to voice my concerns for the welding. Is your tig welding guy certified at all? Did to do any FEA analysis on the final product? Have you applied real world stress to the brackets to see how they react? Reason I'm asking, if you were to do a group purchase and somebody's bracket snapped off of the car, you'd be in a serious world of legal trouble since you are not just looking to offer a bolt-on kit. Unless you and your welder (I don't know if you are the welder or not) are willing to take on that kind of responsibility, I'd seriously consider just offering up the brackets (and dimensional instructions) for individuals to have welded on by another source. The bracket itself looks pretty beefy when compared to the stock hub mount plate, so I doubt there would be any liability there. Just food for thought. Regardless, awesome mod. The e-brake system is especially cool.

thanks for the input Mr Pute, it is hard to see in the pics, but the bracket design also incorperates the two upper hub bolts- for support, but mostly to position the bracket location for welding
damn..looks pretty good to me..nice job..
Sooo John, how is this working for ya? Has the car been drivin on the road to put these rears to the test?
Also what is the GP looking like on your setup..?
Thanks..

Car is still in the garage, (2 jobs, other stuff and honey doos ) front suspension is out for the 12" corvette rotor upgrade (using 5X100 pattern) and engine and trans coming out for a new convertor, and trans interceptor
G/P-- I have set up with a local yard 10 axles-- working with a local (large national)manufacturing company to make the plates and weld- thus no "question" about the welding. most likely will be sold as a "bolt in axle"- you add your hubs and calipers- rotors provided
I have to also check if there is any differences in the e-brake cables for 95 to 05- the aluminum extension I made can be shortened to fit
Schram auto has many sets of calipers- $100 most with less than 100 miles on them
Shipping looks to be a UPS oversize2 package = $30 to $60
thanks for asking
this looks pretty bad ass, good job man
Sweet, keep us updated if ya can..

Any up dateon pricing, or the bolt on brackets?

Nice, lots of work but looks great.

Great work John but I have a question about the 12" front breaks, what else do you have to do to get the dual piston Vette caliper to work with the J car knuckle and how much would you charge for the same front setup you have? I have the parts to do the NWF front brake swap but it will mean I have to buy new front wheels in order to fit the 5 x 115 bc pattern, which also means I won't be able to rotate my tires. So if I can get 12" fronts with the J 5 x 100 bc pattern I save money all around, thanks.
2000 Z24 5spd header & catback for now.
Dale, I am using 305mm x 20mm vette rotors and 1988 fiero calipers / calipers are a bolt on type, and piston diameter is close enough that I won't worry about needing a larger master cyl.
this is the same basic upgrade used on 88 only fieros
I hope to be fabricating the mounting brackets this weekend-- 2 jobs, and a family- cars come in last
In the NWF swap--somewhere there is a front hub that has a dual pattern, that may help if you go that direction
I cant wait to see what you fab up... Im needing a rear swap bad...
So are you going to provide a list of whatever we need for the swap if you offer this to us?
