is my shock blown?
Friday, March 25, 2005 10:58 PM
When I am driving around town and I hit a bad spot in the road or go over bumps my drivers side rear shock knocks real loud. Almost like there is a log in the trunk over by that shock? Is my shock blown? Is it just the shock or should I replace anything else?

The shock may be fine i would check
out the mounts and see if they are damaged.

i'd say its your end links for your front sway bar, more than likely if its the driverside you snapped a LH endlink. not expensive, got a set from energy suspension f$30cnd for both sides

How can it be the end links for the front sway bar if the sound is coming from the trunk?
I will have my new shocks put on as soon as they get here..... I will have to take a look at the shock mounts when I do the suspension work. Can you tell by looking at it if it is bad or not?

I would replace the mount, since they are known to go to junk fast. When I replaced the rear mounts in my g/f's 97 Sunfire SE coupe, if I remember right, the old OEM ones appeared fine. The OEM shocks were definately done for, since the weight of the shock would make the shock compress.

trunk??..oops, didn't read correctly..then in that case forget what i said. if its the rear then i'd check out the rear top mounts. usually the center metal sleeve in the mount disattaches itself from the rubber part of the mount, or aleast thats what mine did. if you have the rear shocks already you might as well just get the rear mount and change them all at once. if you got the extra cash for them then go for it, ...think i paid $100 cnd in all for both rears...good luck man

If its not the mounts u can tell if the shock is blown only by taking it off. Then if it is blown it will compress and not decompress. In other words, it will go down and stick.
