But if everything was better from the factory, where would the need be for people to upgrade their cars themselves?

Seriously... this is the way I would have liked to have seen a Z24 option out:

V6 option (3.1 or 3.4)(only 10HP difference between 2.3 and 2.4, but lots of low end torque)
6 speed manual
rear disk brakes
better seats (at least in the upmarket models)
strut bars front and back
rear anti-roll bar

In this size and market car, what I'm proposing would probably put the price through the roof. I'd bet it would be a $25,000 car

It looks like the Cobalt SS (with perf pkg.) will have covered these ideas (without the V6 of course), for approximately... $25,000 (list)

17" rims, better front sway bar, a rear sway bar, a lower stance (especially in the rear!), Supercharger, brighter headlights, better fit material esp around the dash (damn annoying squeeks and rattles), better manufactured strut mounts, better paint job esp the clearcoat.

To me that's not really asking for too much..

lol or instead of ALL that.. just buy a nice import with all that included and leave the cav as a cheap car to buy for a reason??

but atleast they could have kept the v6 line..

The Cobalt we're seeing right now was supposed to be out in 2000.... the "refresh" of bumpers, lights, etc... wasn't supposed to happen. The J-car line was supposed to die after 99.... then again.. 2003... took a few years

recaro's would be nice as an upgrade. not being known as the "king of body roll" would be another. but most importantly, i suppose if i worked for GM

I WOULD HAVE NEVER KILLED THE W-41

duals...so sick man!!..why not take it one step further and give it smoke stacks or even better Side-Pipes...yes..on both sides...after the exhaust manifold split it in two and run it out

i think they should have come out with the GM charger much sooner and supported all the 2.4 models not just the 00-02's

also would like to see leather seats and interior, 17" rims, all wheel disc breaks, lower and stiffer supension, front and rear sway bars, they could have called this car the Cavalier SS if it came with the S/C and all mentioned above

thats what i would have done to kick off the 3rd gen or atleast one year after

Stupid GM......

well atleast they got most these things right with the cobalt

Wiper blades you can stick straight up in the winter for when it snows.

I would of liked the wipers that do come up all the way (esp living in MI)! and more sound dedending (sp?) because i can hear everything that gets thrown up in the rear of the car.

its missing a decent engine, or turbo or s/c, it missing a quality interior, good steering response, braking system, seats, suspension,

best feature is the bodyline....thats it!!!!!!!!

Gotta keep the list simple as it was supposed to be the bottom of the GM line.
I would have liked to have seen all disk brakes on the Z24/GT models as well as a 2nd engine choice for the '03-'05. A tighter suspension would also have been much appreciated.
I like the standing wiper idea as well. Every winter I see someone with their blades up and I think "damn, why don't I have that on my car?" One thing I'm happy with is that the windsheild washers are in the wipers and not on the hood.

Among the winners, there is no room for the weak

i'm thinking rear disc, and a little bit lower. other then that i'm satisfyed. the cobalt is the uglyist gm creation ever. i could crap on the ground and it would look better then the "POS" cobalt.

I HAVE A FAST CAR, AND BLONDE CHICS RULE.

RWD.

...would have made it a worthwhile platform to modify regardless of engine options...
