No way!
Sunfires only same with 2.2,2.3, or 2.4's.
The last 2.5 came off the line in about 1990 or so.

last car to have a 2.5 was the grand am. it was a pushrod engine. also called the "iron duke". very tough motor. however it was a bit of a punk in the power department...92 HP 135 lb TQ. it was also known as the TECH 4 in its later years.

GM sold the rights of the Iron Duke 2.5 to Jeep if I remember correctly. I think they called it the Hurricane.

Mercury Cougars, the newer ones like 00, have a 2.5 V6 lol, I know we r talking about GM here. Unless he had the 2.4 bored out, and some other work done there is no way he has a 2.5

ah yes, the iron "puke." i have one in my 89 buick century beater car. 225,000 miles and all that i've need to replace is the alternator and muffler (due to rusting off). and right now there's a whole in the exhaust right in front of the cat due to rust. that engine will never die. the buicks body is gonna completely rust apart before that engine is anywhere close to being done for.

No idea..

what year is it? That should narrow it down a bit.

2200 = the 98-02 2.2L pushrod.

but on the valve cover? that's odd.

Got an 84 Fiero with the 2.5 . I have been trying to blow that thing up so I can do an engine swap on it .

VERY tough engine compared to the crappy 2.2/2200's .
