yeah 96-99 there is a plug in the trunk behind the carpet. short the plug and press lock, and unlock at the same time i believe. Search

Yup.
Just sit in your car and hold both the unlock and lock buttons on the remote at the same time for a few seconds. No need to short anything. If it doesn't work at first release the buttons and repeat. Everytime you hit the lock or unlock button to get into your car the code in the remote and car changes. When holding the buttons it cycle through the code to find the right one. Kind of like when you program a remote for a TV, SAT., ...etc. Hope I didn't give you more information than you needed.

im gonna have to disagree with you on that one coolfire...if that was the case then i could walk up and stand beside someone elses car and hold both buttons and gain access to there car.....

its the same as any alarm probably...

1 the key has to be in the ignition

2 there is a button somewhere that you press

Sorry, if I remember right the key also has to be in the ignition in the ON position(not running) to do this. Its been awhile since I did it.

coolfire, that's for "resyncronizing" a remote that is already programmed to the car. When a remote is not on the right cycle for codes.

if it's not programmed to the car, you need to put a jumper in that plug, to put it in learn mode.

You don't happen to know the process for the 2k+ cavies do you John?

Yup.. you use the Tech 2 diagnostic tool. I know the prodecure (commands, menus, etc), but unless you have a Tech2, it's useless info.

Sorry thought I knew what I was talking about ......I do autobody not mechanical. Stuff like that is usually done on the service side at our dealership.

Directly from GM service manuals for a 98:

Turn the ignition to the OFF position.

<a href="http://img126.echo.cx/my.php?image=2802871dr.gif" target="_blank"><img src="http://img126.echo.cx/img126/8122/2802871dr.th.gif" border="0" alt="Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us" /></a>

Jump the 2 terminals located in the program ground connector (4) in order to ground the receiver program terminal. The following conditions indicate that the module is ready to be programmed:
- The door locks will lock.

- The door locks will unlock.

- The rear compartment lid release will cycle.

- The horn chirp will sound. The above conditions should occur within 2 seconds.

Press and hold the LOCK and the UNLOCK buttons simultaneously until the following conditions occur:
- The door locks lock.

- The door locks unlock.

- The rear compartment lid release releases.

- The horn chirp sounds. The above conditions should occur in approximately 12 seconds. The above conditions verify successful transmitter reprogramming.

Perform the previous step for each of the remaining transmitters.
Remove the jumper at the program connector.
Verify the proper operation of each transmitter.

^ok, I have a question about this

I install my vertical doors last week, now my keyless entry won't work. I have already extended all the wires and everything else is working. I have no locks but have an alarm controller as well. I wanted both controllers to work just as they did before. I have no idea why it isn't working. The alarm one works but the trunk button is now working on the asterick button not the trunk release one.

So how can I fix all these problems?!?

I don't know what alarm we're talking about.... but it sounds like when you were extending the wires, somehow the alarm wiring got messed up. Check all your wiring.

If the output for the trunk is on a different wire now...that should in theory cause that.

95-99 cars all use the same three-button remote.. you can reprogram them to your car using that procedure above.... trick is finding them cheap. About $20 each on Ebay... or free using the five-finger-discount at the auto wreckers if you happen to find one...

jcball- you need to hold the unlock and lock buttons for about 15 seconds and it should work. Mine cycled a few times after i did that and everything worked fine. NO horn chirrped either
