99 Z24 Engine swap
Friday, April 08, 2005 8:55 AM
I have a 99 Z24 auto, and it is getting up there in miles. I want to mildly build another LD9 and swap it in, besides a 99 engine, what would be the easiest swap.

The trans is a easy find so i am just wondering on the engine and sensors.

I believe that the knock sensors are different between old LD9's (1996-1998) and new LD9's (2000-2002?).
I have no egr valve, unlike my friends 99 that has an egr valve.

All comments welcomed.
The search i did only found limited results.

just pull out the engine you have now and build it up. new pistons, connecting rods, cams, port and polish, etc etc. all that good stuff

Easiest swap besides another 2.4L?

3400, or Eco. Either way you are going to have to re-wire and modify engine mounts. Oh and then there is the whole tranny dilemma.

I am building a 98 2.4L to put in my 99. I am still not sure about the knock sensor, but I eventually will have to figure something out there. Still finishing up the internals. Have not gotten to the whole sensor thing yet.

I'll listen in here though, in case some light is shed on the subject.

thanks guys for the info.
My only major concern is that knock sensor.
Just wanted to see is there was anything else i needed to worry about.

the 00+ have a smaller knock sensor...... so the hole can be drilled and tapped for the larger 96-99 sensor (did this on GreenZ's engine... he has a 00 engine in a 96)

The 00+ have slightly higher compression..... 9.7:1 vs. 9.5:1
