Power Steering

Anyone have problems with their power steering? If so, how old was the car when it started?

My 2000 pos is starting to have problems with the power steering... I'm guessing its the pump (hard to turn, making a squeaking sound below the fluid fill cap, about where the pump is) but I haven't taken her to the shop to be looked at yet.

Frustrating how much goes wrong with the stupid thing.

I was having issues with my parents power steering... the intermediate shaft was replaced on a TSB... no charge to them.

I've had three J's now (99, 2x 00), and my parents have had three as well (97, 00, 03)... haven't had any major issues...

"how much goes wrong" with your car?? I'm curious now.

Eh, she's a piece.

Not anything major gs head on wood*, but stupid little things like my friggin muffler has just fallen off three times out of the blue, the surface of the B pillar has decided to chip and flake off, I have a great big crack on my dash right behind the windowshield, the plastic piece over the cluster panel decided to make a neat spiderweb design in cracks all over it (without it ever being touched).

Not to mention things that aren't the "car's fault: like the magnetism of other cars to her when she is parked, or punks stealing my centercaps and ripping my wing off. The car just frustrates me, needless to say

well i had my power steering pump replaced twice within the last year. once last july and just recently, maybe a month ago now. both times it was just a leak that sometime would just out of the blue blow all my fluid out at once and then other times would hold it for weeks on end. f'ed up if you ask me. but yea anyways, mines a 99 base model cav. with 130k miles on it now.

@BoltZ22 - Lucas Power Steering Fluid Stop Leak.

But to HeartbreakerCav that sounds like a bad power steering pump to me. Same symptoms mine had when it went out a few weeks ago. Hard to turn at slow speeds and I'd imagine if it's tight at a stop with the car in park/neutral when you are turning the wheels if you step on the gas and idle it up some it'll loosen right up? If it does that I can almost gaurantee it's the power steering pump. Meineke charged me $191.50 for the new pump plus 1.3 hours worth of labor to put it in on my 97 Cavalier.
