Rear disc upgrade?
Thursday, May 26, 2005 8:25 PM
I was wondering if there is a way to use any vehicles stock rear calipers and rotors and bolt it on my 96 Z24? I work at NAPA so any make model etc caliper is easy to get. But I need to know if anything will work first. I have looked into an aftermarket upgrade but that is 700 dollars. It would be nice to find something that works, so down the road I can just get rear pads and rotors from a xxxxxxx to replace the used stuff. I know that nothing is going to bolt right up but with as little modding as possible. Has anyone looked into this?

The "easiest" parts to use are in the Baer kit, which is made up of Camaro/Corvette parts. 87-93 I believe... PBR calipers and 12" rotors.. The only piece that's unique is the mounting plate. You can order the parts yourself, and re-drill the rotors... but it will add up to near $700 as it is.

Better off saving up and getting a conversion kit.

(We've tried this same topic a hundred times in the suspension/brake forum.. and it always comes down to the same thing )

Baer did the research... found the fastest, easiest way was using the Y-body stuff.... why do more work than is necessary?

With the Cobalt SS coming out, I wonder if those parts will swap.
