auto pcm in a 5spd

I have a 95 cav 2.2 with a 5spd
the ecm went the other day, it was holding the injectors open, with the key on and engine off

I went to a local yard and picked up a new comp, it was out of a manual, they said it didn't matter. now the engine runs fine, but it used to idle about 900rpm, now it idles about 600.
were they wrong about the pcm from an auto working properly with a 5spd?

Autos usually idle lower but as long as your car is running properly and can shift properly, I wouldn't worry about it.

At saturn, ALL models & years of cars with diferent trannys use different PCMs. I doubt that pontiac or chevrolet are any different.

95 PCMs are the same for OBD1 cars (all models, except 2.3L auto.. which is OBD2). the only difference is the MEMCAL chip which plugs into the PCM.

Try switching the MEMCAL from your old PCM to the new one... see if that solves it.

I tried switching the memcal from the old one to the new one, it didn't work, car wouldn't start.

I called a local gm dealer and found out that while the pcm is the same, there are some very major differances between the memcal programming.

I ended up getting another pcm, from a 5spd this time, from a differant yard and for $25 less. Due to the fact that the place I got the first pcm did not want to fix there screw up and give me the proper one within a resonable amont of time. I am going to them monday and demand a refund.

Guess it was the MEMCAL that was shot.. not the PCM itself then?

could be, I think maybe both were shot. when i took out the origonal pcm, the two halves of the aluminum case seperated. the case was corroded so bad that the bolts were no longer holding it together. both the PCM PCB and the MEMCAL were covered and aluminum corrosion.

although when i spoke to the guy at the GM dealer i asked him about just switching the MEMCAL and he said it probably wouldn't work.
