This is for my girlfriends 99 base Cavalier, and both problems are not related ...or rather didn't happen at the same time.
First problem is the headlights (low-beams) will not work. Both went out on the same time, and high beams both work. I've tried replacing the bulbs, fuses, and the DRL (daytime running light) relay -- all to no avail. High beams still work, and she has to drive with them on and gets flashsed like 6-7 times a night. The only thing I can think of is the actual switch on the blinker arm.
Second problem is her HVAC "level" knob. Her #2 setting does not work. 1 works, 3 works, and 4 works but #2 acts like #1. I'm not sure if this is the actual switch burnt out or some other kind of relay or box?
I will be going to a pull-a-part and can probably get any part I need for this, just want to make sure I'm grabbing the correct parts.

They call it a multifunction switch because it control multiple items. The switch on the j's usally include the headlite, hi beam, blinker, and cruise control if equipped.

The arm (or multifunction switch) is $77 at the dealer, rape if you ask me.
Where in the car is this blower resistor?
Thursday I'll be going, so if I need to grab another multifunction, I could probably get it for $20. Let me know.

REMOVAL PROCEDURE
The blower motor resistor is located in the lower right corner of the HVAC module. The resistor is located between the blower motor and the front of the dash.
Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Remove the right sound insulator.
Remove the blower motor.
Cut a portion of the dash mat in order to gain access to the rear resistor screw.
Disconnect the electrical connection at the blower resistor.
Remove the blower resistor screws.
Remove the blower motor resistor.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
Install the blower resistor. NOTE : Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
Install the blower resistor screws. Tighten Tighten the screws to 1 N.m (9 lb in) .
Replace the portion of the dash mat that you cut during the removal procedure.
Connect the electrical connections at the blower resistor.
Install the blower motor. Tighten Tighten the screws to 5 N.m (45 lb in) .
Install the right sound insulator.
Connect the negative battery cable. Tighten Tighten the negative battery cable bolt to 16 N.m (12 lb ft) .
Let me simplify that...
Under the passenger side dash is a little bubble. That's your blower fan. There are three screws holding it on, they need to be removed.
Take off the bubble, and remove the fan. You can then see the resistor, it is parralell to the firewall.
Its a 2 inch by 3 inch circuit board looking thing.

has any one els lost only their driving lights mine lost them and there a dash light for the lights constantly blinkg any sugestions?
