Just got a 2002 cavalier

new to this board,

Just picked up a 2002 cavalier 2.2 5spdcoupe for the wife, it's has everything even sunroof ...but no power locks/windows(got a conversion kit for it already on ebay for keyless entry)

Any ways on the truck forums that i'm on, there is a thread/faq about any common problems for specific years of vehicles. Just wanting to see if there any common problems/issues with this year of car. The car only have 20K miles on it

Thanks.

Look forward to talking with you all...

there are 2 2.2's for that year............. 2.2 2200 ohv, 2.2 ecotech dohc...... and as far as i know there isn't any major problems with the cars........... i think there is an air bag recall around that year

Well havent' looked much at it yet, but when i looked under the hood, I saw the 2200 badge on the intake area. Is that a good/bad engine?

I had a 97 Z24 I got new with 10 miles on it, loved that car. Maybe i'm just too used to my 2 truck since then, but i swear this 2002 has more power and better take off then the z24

u have the 2.2 OHV....2002's don't have any recalls as i recall, just a sticker that peels off under the hood...that's it. Mine has been perfect for me, i wish it were an ecotec, but hasn't given me any problems.

5 speed? beware of the dreaded Getrag tranny noise. you'll hear it up to about 2400rpm while lugging engine. worse when a/c is on. GM has no fix. just random attempts to reduce the obnoxious noise but nothing that works for everyone. get used to it. thank your god if you don't notice it. good luck.

only advice i can give you is don't cry cuz its a slow car. the 2200 isn't fast. ron (a guy on this site that lives around me) has an intake, header, cat back exhaust, motor mounts, and a shift kit and says he can hardly tell a difference in power/acceleration.

GO PATS!!!

^ the 2200 isnot that bad. Granted its the red headed step child of Jbody motors it still has excellent potential...you just got to do some research and actually follow through, with your plans. I beat my car constanly I get on her every day but i am very picky on mainenice so it helps. also just remember your 2200 hundered may not be fast but that is where auto x comes in

GM calls it "natural harmonics". we had massive threads going a while back. a huge online petition too. a guy from Getrag was even in on the thread trying to troubleshoot. almost everyone has the problem. VERY limited success with some of the fixes explored. Mr Goodwrench GT tried tons of tranny fluids. he had most success with B&M Trickshift synthetic ATF. i actually need to change mine out so i'm going to give that a shot soon. other than that, we've pretty much all given up. you can adjust your driving style to help...but normally end up riding the clutch or shifting at higher RPM's (which is where you're met with another problem...the heavy flywheel maintaining your engine speed after pushing the clutch in: fix = lighten or replace flywheel).

anyway....good luck.
