ok lets sort this one out for the last time hopefully. the Z24 and LS sport are the same car the only differance is the name and badges on the cars.

LS SPORT= AMERICAN
Z24= CANADIAN

different names for the different markets
so when someone says i.e. 2003 Z24 they are from canada.

STOP SAYING OH I THOUGHT THEY STOPPED THE Z24 IN 2001
this really agervates us canadian guys. every post we have to explain the Z24

all the guys who all ready know about this sorry you had to hear me B***H

2002 Ls sport = Ecotec

2002 Z24 = 2.4 TC

Yes Ls and Z24 is the same thing but the engine is different(except for the 03-05 Z24 for us Canuck)

You could get both engine in 02. I do get some weird look with my 02 4door Z24.

I located a picture of a Canadian Z24 coupe from a GM web site. The car lacks the ground effects of the LS model for the US, but does have the chrome tip and 16" wheels. I think GM should have marketed this car in the US instead of the LS.

they made the true z24 till may 2002 seen one on the lot when i bought my first cav , they had 2200 base/ls, Ls Sport/ Ecotec , and the 2.4 z24 for 2002 they had two option upgrade motors one comming and one going then in 2003 they killed everything but the ecotec since it was gonna be the motor used in all the new cars

well that just proves that canada sucks. In the US the badge on a car means something. For example any chevrolet car with the Z package USUALLY means its got more HP and performance. Its a step up from the rest. People in canada just like the letter Z cause its the last letter in the alphabet and canada is used to coming in last. So they like to put it on things for no reason. The 2003+ Z24 in canada is like the Z22 in America. Pointless.

Completely false. The Z24 is merely an RPO package with a ground effects kit and the 2.4L engine. A base model 2 door (non-Z24) and in the US with the 2.4L (it wasn't only available in the Z's), has the same performance and hp as a Z24.

IIRC, wasnt the 2nd Gen Z24's the ones with 2.8's, then later 3.1L's? Z24 merely means the RPO package, and generally the "sports model" version of the car. Pontiac on the other had had really nothing other than GT for the Sunfire, while the 2002 GT had the ECO only i believe. The Sunbird GT on the otherhad wasnt a 3.1L, but a 2.0L Turbo (why they got rid of it is still beyond me).

Pontiac also had the SE's, which could be gotten with a 2.2 or 2.4. Yes early Z's had the 2.8 (I had one), and was offered as an option in the later models (even in base packages). Before the Sunfire came out, the Sunbird had the GT, and LE models.

The Canadian site used US pictures. That picture that you refer to was a base US model with the US specific "Sport Appearance Package" (rear spoiler, 16" Machine-faced wheels, FE2 suspension, no body kit).

It was not available Canada and does not look like a Canadian Z24.

In the US they did rename the model LS Sport, but there are no LS or LS Sport models in Canada.

The Canadian top-of-the-line performance model has always been called the Z24, both the 2.4L and Eco's.

If you do a member search there are quite a few 2003 - 2005 Z24's here.

There are LS models in Canada, but they're all sedans. No LS sport's though.

I believe that from 2003 - 2005, Canadian models were:

VL - Base Coupe & Sedan (optional Z-Type avail. on Coupes only)
VLX Coupe & Sedan
Z24 Coupe & Sedan

There are Z24 badges on the front fenders on the car in the picture on the Canadian GM web site. I talked to the parts manager at the local Chevy dealership about the Cavaliers in Canada being available with a Z24 option vs the US having the LS option. He said as far as he is aware, the Z24 badges on the front fenders of the 2003-2005 Cavalier models are probably dealer installed on the Canadian models. He pointed out that the rear of the car doesnt have any Z24 logos, nor does the interior. The US model only has "LS" next to the name Cavalier under the right rear taillight. It doesnt have any further badging noting it is an LS. He also pointed out the "sport tuned suspension" advertised for the LS model US (Z24 Canada) isnt that sport tuned. The struts are just a tiny bit stiffer. That's it. It is really just the low profile tires and rims of the LS that set it apart from a base model. A friend of mine that I work with has a 2005 Cavalier LS and it doesnt look any different underneath than my 2003 Cavalier Coupe (Popular Package model-rear spoiler, 6-speaker sound system, body color trim).

I've never seen a sports appearance packaged equipped Cavalier around my part of the country, but I like the look. There is maybe one 2004 Cavalier 4-door with the Rally package (dual racing stripes, LS appearance package) running around town, but most are just 4-door LS's.

That is probably correct. The ZType badges were definitely dealer installed and some dealers choose not to install them. It should also be noted that the APC Z24 badges (not OEM) were listed as an official GM accessory in the later years in the USA.

True. Z24 badges were introduced on third gens. in 2000 in both the US and Canada. There were only ever used on the front fenders.

From 2003 - 2005 Z24/LS Sport had FE2 level suspension, while all others were FE1. FE1 was used on early third generation Z24's. The springs might be different, there has been some debate on that. Apparently the struts are the same. The front sway bar is 24mm on the FE2, 19mm on all others. The steering ratio is different and the lower front control arm bushing are different. Also the FE2 has a welded in rear stabilizer inside the rear axle beam which apparently doesn't do much.

In the US FE2 was an option on base cars from 2003 - 2005 as part of the sports appearance package.

The car with the stripes you are referring to is an LS Sport with the limited edition package. It was available in 2004 only. From 2003 - 2005 US Sports appearance cars had the FE2 LS Sport suspension, but not the LS Sport body kit.

Here is the picture you are referring to:

http://www.mcneilchev.ca/english/vehicles/2005/chevrolet/cavalier/cava_mode.html

It is a US Sports Appearance car that someone in Canada photo-shopped some ZType or Z24 emblems onto.

It is not a Z24. Z24's all had painted mirrors, painted door handles, full body kit, and chrome exhaust tip.

It is also not a Z-Type. Z-Types had black mirrors and door handles but the full Z24 body kit, including fogs and exhaust, and 15" 5 spoke aluminum wheels, not 16".

Here is the 2005 Canadian brochure:
