Is this Myth or true about used cars?
Monday, September 05, 2005 7:23 PM
Well ive herd that alot of used cars, that are pretty much new, people sell because they are very trouble prone/lemons etc....

i found a 2004 ls sport cavalier, sunburst orange, 5spd manual, everything i was looking for, and it only has 9,383 miles on it.....and although it's almost brand new, and sitll under factory warranty im kinda nervus about buying it

what do you guys think? ok to buy? or gonna be a bundle of trouble?

not exactly.. a lot of people get new cars every couple of years or even some just upgrade to suit their lifestyle, like if they are having a child or traveling that requires towing etc..

if you are nervous i would try to find the maintence schedule as well as warrantee if possible.

there are many reasons why..

they found something better...

they found that they couldn't afford it...

could have been a dealership car that was loaned to customers...

With that low of milage, you should be fine...

If it turns out to have an issue or too.. you will be just fine...

You could use those doubts to talk them down some more in price though...
one in my area like that might go for like 8995 or something to that...

if your nervous about buying a car w/ only 9k miles and still a factory warranty, then maybe you should stick w/ the bus.

Mine was used, had it a year no problems at all. Plus if it has a warrenty why worry if it breaks you'll get the problem fix with just a small inconvience of time. I sold a 96 Cavalier with 120k on the ticker no problems in the 2 years I had it, none were going to happen that I could for see either.

With the amount of warranty remaining, I wouldn't worry.

Most people just trade because they get tired of the car and want a new one. I have done this many times.

but it still dosent hurt to take the car out for a test drive alone. and beat the living snot out of it. 60mph and energancy stops, full throttle accleration, hard turns left and right in a parking lot,(throw the car around and listen for weird noises. allot of dealers have the cars on the lot with very little gas also so you might have to put a couple of gallons in it. bring the car back with the brakes smoking. the look the sales men give you is price less

see ya!

Most areas don't do than anymore. But I still beat the snot out of it with the dealer in the car. It makes them quiet realy quick when you have the tires screaming around a corner.

I bought my Sunfire when it was a year old with 26,000 miles on it. I asked the guy why it was traded in so soon & he told me that the guy that bought it couldn't afford the payments, so he traded it in on a Cav It wouldn't hurt to ask why it's there to see what kind of answer they give you.

The dealership I bought my car at also pulled up the whole maintenance history of everything taken care of at the dealership as well as everything that roadside assistance was called for. I found out that the guy had to call them when he locked himself out at one point The dealer also pulled up a carfax for me. You might want to request these history items too.

All said and done for me, I think I have one heck of a great car. I don't have the rattles and issues that many here complain about, it definately isn't a lemon. Buying used was definately a good experience for me. Too bad the guy that owned my car for the first year couldn't keep it, he gave up a good one!

I test drove a Cobalt SS non S/c yesterday, it has the 2.4 eco with a5 speed. car had 5 miles on it, one thing i dont like on these new cars is the electronic throttle. Anyway the 2.4 runs pretty good, layed a hell of a 2nd gear scratch, and probably could have gotten a little of third but the salesman started to bitch.

Decent car for the 19,500 sticker, i was hoping they also had a S/C i could drive and see the differenct, but they didnt. I went to another dealr than was supposed to have a 2006 SS S/C with the performance package and pretty much fully loaded, 25,645 on the sticker, but when i got there they had sold it the day before and tried to get me to look at a non S/C SS Silver Auto. I wasnt interested.

Anyways, ive been thinking about selling the cavy and getting a new Cobalt, just noit sure if the SS S/C is worth the etra coin, or stick with the 2.4 171 HP eco and turbo it down the road, or even get the eco S/C if it ever comes out.

i wish i would of known that a few hours ago....i ran a car fax, car got sold at a few auctions which was kinda weird, but it was a lease so it prob got repoed

i also went up to a local GM dealership and got them to check how many times the car has had warrenty work, once for a passanger side mirror replacement and once for a sunroof problem....so it doenst seem to have major mechanical issues with it, so i got off work sat and set up a time to go look at it

so hopefully if all goes good ill have myself my 2nd car

A lot of smaller dealerships get most of their cars from auctions. They might get it for say 3 grand, but be able to sell it for 5-6 just how it works.

I don't trust Car Fax. It says my 95 LS is a Z24. I the car had problems and was not reported Car Fax won't have the info!

Carfax is great, gives you the past history of your car. before i bought my 99 z24 i got a carfax report, it had 11 reports! all title transfers and plate renewals. my car was a lease to the first owner in Toldeo, Ohio for 3 years. someone else bought it and had it for 4 years in Macomb, michigan. car was put into auto auction, in Grand Rapids it was bought at auction by a used dealer in Traverse City, michigan...now it is in my possesion. car had 99,998 miles on it when i bought it for $3700. car sat for awhile, i had to replace the dry rotted tires. all regular maintenace is now up to date.

i worked at a dealership this summer and they hate when a person comes in and asks for a car fax because half of the time the reports arent as specific as they should be. they always tell people to a dealer of whatever kind of car it is with a vin and have them look it up themselves in their records and they will be able to tell you everything, absolutley everything about the car

id go for it sound ok to me. but there right about car fax some times it wont show every thing. here insurance is through the roof . so most people who bang up there cars just get them fixed out of pocket and pray there insurance dosent find out about it. get the car fax and call the preivous owners and ask a few questions. my ex looked at a celica once it was dirt cheap for an 03 car fax came back very little info about the car. so we called the both previous owners and asked if they ever had an accident with the car. it was totalled in a serious front end collision by the first owner the second guy never even knew about it. really pays to do your home work.
