i believe that my catalytic converter is starting to go. I was wondering if it would affect performance any if i just removed it. thanks for your help

OBDII won't like that there's no catalytic convertor.

You may lose a little bottom end with no cat. You'd also need to run an 02 simulator, or whatever they're called. Your best bet would be to replace it with a high flow unit.

There are too many negatives and really no positives in removing your catalytic converter.

- You car will sound mega-loud
- You O2 sensor will throw a code
- Might actually lose power
- If you have inspection in your state, you will fail
- Illegal to not have a catalytic converter (in all 50 states)

also if you were to remove it, you would have to pay someone to put some type of piping in it's place. An aftermarket one (Magnaflow) costs about $100-120, just deal with it for now and save up to buy one and replace it.
