the 3.4 DOHC is useless. Plain stupid to swap it IMO. the 3400 or 3.4 is different. Not all 3.4 are DOHC in case you didn't know.

You have 215hp from a block of concrete (3.4) and you can get the same thing with about half the weight of the 3.4 with a W41 2.3.

go to w-body.com, and PM aaron about his car. HE has an all motor 3.4 in a 3400lb car that ran 14's on a @!#$ty tune.

The 3.4 is a very versitile engine, and one of the more reliable. Just check the condition of the timing belt, the tend to need replaced every 60k miles, or boom. Ask areound w-body, you'll get alot of help, they know their stuff, they know TOO much.

PS; a w-body is a

88-present grand prix, regal, cutty, 1990-present lumina, 1995 monte carlo-present, olds aroura, etc

Too bad the W41 quad is that fast stock, and takes mods better than the 3400 will, and weighs about half what the 3400 does.

3400 and the 3.4 DOHC are totaly diff engines. the 3.4dohc is an overjhead cam engine, while the 3400is a pushrod.

This type statement amazes me. While your power to weight ratio is better with the W41 than the 3.4 DOHC, you're forgetting the fact that you will have more potential with the 3.4 for a very strong smooth engine with way better driveability. It all depends on what you're going for. To say a V6 swap is useless is just narrow minded. While may be arguably better to pick a DOHC 4-banger over a pushrod V6 for building a quick car, you're talking about a DOHC 4 vs a DOHC 6. Apples to apples, greater displacement and more cylinders offers more potential, even with the extra weight.
For an example of the potential for the 3.4 DOHC, click here

I never said a V6 swap was useless. I said the 3.4 DOHC was useless. You have 215hp with the 3.4 DOHC and you can get more power from another V6 with less work.

Another thing, do more research. the 2.3 can be streetable even with 500hp. Bilmar did a 2.3 with the same power as the 3.4DOHC, weight half of the 3.4 DOHC and you get the same potential. I would go with a 3.4 OHV way before the 3.4 DOHC so please, read correctly before getting on me.

Settle down, fellas! We don't need another flame war, and you guys are going WAY off-track. He never asked if a 3.4DOHC swap would be better than a quad-4, but asked what he would need if he bought that cheap parts car.

I don't have the answers, but someone here must have. Nothing came up when you searched for V6 swaps?

ask doublezed aka brad about his 3.4 dohc setup.

Ironicly, I put a pushrod V6 in mine, so arguing in favor of the DOHC seems a little off, but turboing a 3.4 DOHC with no internal mods, the factory computer and getting well over 300WHP and tourque shows you just how much potential the engine has. As far as streetable power on the 2.3, I don't doubt it can be done, but look at the fact that the 3.4 DOHC will still have more low end torque at that level than the 2.3 will, which translates into quicker and smoother throttle response on the street. Again, it does depend on what your goal is, but to say the swap is useless is pretty narrow minded. This should probably go in a new post. I actually enjoy these type debates.

As far as info on the swap, I would definitely recommend talking to Brad (DoubleZed). He built an entire subframe, which adds some serious structural stability, but it's probably not entirely necessary to do the swap itself. Just be prepared for some fabrication, and fun with wiring.
