Strange cable rubbing on gas pedal
Wednesday, November 02, 2005 2:06 PM
I just bought a 1998 Cavalier two-door. There is a strange black cable wedged between the gas pedal and the floor of the car, and it doesn't look like it should be there. As you can see, the pedal has rubbed off a little bit of the cable's insulation. The cable appears to go up through the steering column towards the wheel. What is this cable, where should it be, and how can I fix it?

(sorry for big pictures)

Park brake interlock cable. It stops the car from shifting out of park unless you have the brake pedal depressed... also removing the key from any key position other than park... also if the shifter button is pushed down, the key won't come out.

I'd just zip-tie it out of the way...

Thanks man. By the way, those vertical doors in your signature look awesome.

No worries

I guess I should update my sig... but I don't have any recent pics.. the vertical doors came off too much rubbage (is that a word?) on the side skirts..

Just wanted to say that I got some duct tape and taped the cable down behind the carpet so it doesn't rub underneath the gas pedal anymore. Thanks for the great explanation of what it was.
