This is prolly a stupid question but...

I was just wondering. In the 97-98 cavaliers what type of motor came in them. I was told that there was 2.0l But i thought that they were 2.2 and the 2.4? im just wondering if i was wrong?

97 was the 2.2l and 2.4l
98 was the 2200 and 2.4l

Thanks you for your answer, i knew i was right bout it. But he didn't belive me. What years came with the 2.0? Was there 2.0l befor those years.

2.0 came in the 1980's, first gen Cavs.

Actually, the 2.0s were also in the Sunbirds with a turbo setup. The 2.0s are the predecessors of the 2.2 ohv motor (LN2).

Thanks NJHK, I figured someone would add more if I didn't get it all 100% correct.
The Sunbird engines always confuse me, because Pontiac used to put engines in them that Chevy didn't put in the Cavalier, like the turbo models and the OHC models.

No problem...2nd & 1st gens are confussing so I don't even bother with them most of the time lol

I meant more that the LN2 was the next generation of the 2.0 motor...that they were exactly the same.

the 2.0 OHV yes.. but the 2.0 found in sunbirds is a completely different motor than the ones in cavs. The happen to share the same displacement only. the sunbird motor was overhead cam while the ln2 is an overhead valve. no components are interchangeable between them.
