This can be done. This was actually covered in one of Mr. Goodwrenches threads. The computer litterally just has to have the auto settings turned off. Nothing more too it. I know DHP can do it for you. I forget how much they charge.

I wasn't aware that it was that simple with the DHP. I ass-u-me d that there would still be issues with the EGR and TCC crap but thats sweet if not. As far as the ECU burn from milzy, if he wants another buy to make it slightly cheaper/worth while im 100% in. As far as the rope, lol I understood what you meant but after all that wiring I still don't think a decent length of rope is ideal to have anywhere in the area. IDK what im going to do, yet still have to get mine apart been working too many hours. I really think im going to go the yard and search out some options but if DHP is the cure all, Probley a GA harness something already FWD, and I really have never been a fan of OBDII in a swap since. But it does allow allot other tuning, but the question is what more can I do with the DHP over a haltech? I can log, but I think that you can with DHP also. Is that a real time tuner? I guess i'll have to read into more because im def, going boost and independent boost per gear would be really nice. Keep me posted on it all, and don't get the wrong ideas with the rope .

I'm certainly hoping that Mike (at Milzy) can do it. He has cams for the 3400 as well. I was thinking that the Stage II sounds like a nice idea. (Though the price is kinda high, there's somewhat of a limited option on this)

Yea, be cool to know about the DHP, however as far as cams, a custom grind would have to be done with my intentions of boost. I'm really intrested in exactly what is possible with the DHP, mainly i'd be happy with adjusting timing, and fuel curve/ injector length.

i have my 3100 in with 3400 upper lower intakes, custom made headers and crossover, downpipe, intercooler piping etc. almost ready to go just need to do some final welding at it should be pretty much ready.

ill try and get some pics up soon of the progress. lets just say the exhaust will be hiiii flow.

??? You have the small port 3100 with the larger intakes on it? As far as the boost, some dyno action would be cool. Or any video with burnouts, beating down other cars, and blow-off valves will be acceptable.

lol, i like your list of "acceptable" videos, pics . I have allot of pics of the port work on the 3100 heads and upper/lower intake manifold and the 3400 TB im using. But no vids yet! too much time working on other people's cars and not mine!!! My primaries on my exhaust are 1.5" OD, to 2.5" collector. I lack a few easy items with some help I found the flex piece for the X over online for cheap. I had all this from my 2nd gen that I sold. The aftermarket support just wasn't there.

He has an 00+. I'm hoping that it's different on the 96-99 and we can get away with just a PCM.

Really...I wonder sometimes around any of these forums. It seems every day I'm reading a question that was answered earlier in the same thread.

Hello been a while , LOL

A question from earlier about the crank sensors being 7X and 24X . The PCM will use the 24X sensor until it hit around 1,400 RPM's then it will switch to the 7X sensor . Why does it do this " I don't know why , they could have used the 24X through the entire RPM range " . Bewteen the two the 24X is a higher resolution sensor which means the timing is more precise . The 2.2/2200 engines found in the J-body is a 3X so you can figure the timing is bouncing around when the RPM's are climbing .

Another note on the sequential fuel injection on our 3.4/3400's . It is sequential until we hit around 3,400 RPM's then it goes to a batch fire ( fires two injectors at once ) .

..........................................................................................

The PCM , BCM , EBCM are all connected . BUT if they cannot comunnicate with one and other they will still continue to work . The EBCM will still operate the anti-lock brakes even if it does not pick up the PCM . The BCM will also continue to work with out the PCM in place .

The biggest draw back to swapping the PCM is the gauge cluster . But the speedometer will work because most GM cars use the same pulse count and send the same signal to the gauges ( 1000 pulses per mile ) . The tach usually will not work because of the signal being sent out by the new PCM .

I have read a lot about how GM vehicles are setup . But in my swap I did'nt go through most of it . I went a different route which had it's own hurdles . I had to make a gauge cluster and wire up a computer that you have to program . Also I had to swap out the fuel level sending unit to a 0 to 90 OHM unit to use an aftermarket fuel gauge . The OBDII range around 60 to 240 OHMs .

........................................................................................

Anyway It has been a while since I have been around . Started working on my car , Last year I was programming the computer and the harddrive crashed . Lost everything on the laptop , replaced it and then opened my own business which took all of my time . Now I can work on my car again , and have everything planned out and waiting for a new starter to show up for the Cav .

I guess everyone probably thought I had sold the car and moved on . Na just got puilled away from it for a while .

BATCH fire is all 6 injectors at the same time. On the MPFI 660's they run in batch fire mode. All 6 injectors fire at the same time. Hence, it does not matter what order you hook up the fuel injectors. Batch fire is ALL injectors. BANK fire is 2 or 3 of them.

wow u 2 are the only ones in this forum lol but i have a question, if i wanted to do this swap what should i expect to run into, problems wise. what electronic set up should i run? can i just take the one out of the car i get the engine from or does it not match up with the cavalier? do the engine mounts line up? and how much did this swap cost?

.....oh yeah and of course is it fast? what are the numbers?
thanks

PS: u have a 95 cavalier Z

Wow Rob, good to see you're still around. I was beginning to wonder where you'd gone off to...
Just a minor correction: 4000ppm for the speedo, not 1000.

I just got back from a vacation, and I'm going to try to get my car running by the end of the month, but work just got hectic again, so who knows if it will happen. My goal is to have it running by June, and then pull the engine and do the paint, and have it back on the road for July. Let's see how well I do with that goal.

Been a while since I have messed with the car . Most of the cars I have been working with have been disassembled and in need of new sheet metal throughout .

As for the Cav. I am working on getting everything finished . Last time I had the laptop hooked up to the car , the hard drive crashed and shut me down until I could get another laptop . To go along with that I also needed to replace the starter with something that was better than the 4 cylinder starter from the 2200 .

I have this weekend off and will get the starter on . I am also going to pick up a battery relocation kit and stuf the battery in the trunk . The intake leaves no room for the battery under the hood . BUT the intake looks good with the K&N cone filter setting where the battery should have went .

I see you guys are all putting sticks in. I know they are cool and all but My 01 has the auto 4spd. which is almost a clone to the auto 4 spd of the 01 grand am gt that I got the 3.4 out of. It has the electronic shift solinoids, that as I look at the gam gt tranny wiring in comparison to the cav, they are the same. This will work? NO?
Using the 3.4 computer for the tranny, and also the gam rear tranny torque mount bolts to the cav tranny.

One more question. The computer data lines of the cars computers are connected together in one way or another through splices or through the computers( bcm, etc.)
If I splice the 3.4 data line to the obd II plug will I be able to access it as well as still the other systems?

Doing the swap into a 4spd will make your swap soo much easier. As you'll be able to use that PCM, yes. Since the tranny is a bit smaller/not really intended for the 3400 I would suggest maybe adding a tranny cooler.

Re: some progress info on the V6 swap
Saturday, May 20, 2006 6:40 PM
I just found out that the cav tranny is a 3.42 ratio and the gam gt is 3.29. Since the computer controls the shift points, do you guys think that it will be too much of a difference that the tranny shifts at the wrong rpm's. This could be at an advantage for fuel consumption though.

Does any one know how to rework the factory tach for the 6 cyl?
