i know its not the same gen, but i had an 83' cav 2 door, bought it for $65 at 145,000 miles, needed a new cv joint and exhaust, but i ran the piss out of it for about 8 months and put on another 23k before i sold it for $150. Well 2 years later i bought it back for $100 and it's at 225xxx miles right now. May have been tan and a little rusty but god i loved that car, biased cause it was my first i suppose. all in all it's taken a new starter, the exhaust was rusted through, and thats about it. On then struts that i put into it because they were a little worn but it wasnt neccesary when i did it. I even drove it 10 miles home after spinning a belt pulling cookies in a culdasack, now if that doesnt show how durable those cars are i dont know what does,

i have 160000miles ive had 2 replace the water pump and the clutch and i beet the @!#$ out of it all day flooring it non stop and it runs great

First post from me folks! Im normally a Jeep guy (not one of those Jeep snobs though) but my commuter is my Sunfire.
My daily driver 98 with stick has 145,000 on it, I've put 130k on it after buying it used. I havent had to replace anything other than the recall on the ignition, which went up in smoke before I got the recall note. Something near the timing chain makes a rattling noise from time to time. Gotta get that done soon I guess. FINGERS CROSSED!!!!!!!

Its more than likely the timing chain itself. If the noise only happens when the car is at operating temp, that's the culprit.

On a side note, just rolled over to 170k w00t!

yeah if it only makes it at operating temp, i would say the chain also although if it makes it when cold could be the lifters

41k miles so far on my 02 cavy. havent replaced anything other than a radiator which was due to the stock positive battery terminal being left in the engine bay during the install of my sound system which got caught and pushed into it by the fan. wont be bringin the car back to that place. haha. but so far its been very reliable

my 04 ecotec 5spd has 62K miles on it so far. Only thing ive had to replace were the stock tires (obviously) and both windows switches and a headlight screw lol. Nothing majorly mechanical so far *crosses finger in hopes to keep it that way*

I have a 95 Cavalier with the 2.2 ohv with 168K mile's, no problems but just the brake pads worn out but replaced and with my regular tune up's on it...it still runs like new and hoping to get over past 200K pretty soon!!

Jess yeah i have that same prob on my 04 eco, except i don't know if it's the motor itself or just the switches it's actually happening now on both the drivers and passengers side windows. If i roll one of them down and then try and roll it up again right away it's as if something overheats in there or something and halfway up it stops, and if you let it sit a minute it will go a little further up, sit another minute and eventually all the way up.

almost 79,000 on my 04 ls sport no issues thus far other than what i thought was a scraping sound the other morning when i started it up, wonder if my starter could be missing some teeth.

Just rolled over to 100K Km. tonight('round 70,000 Miles) on my '02. It has had random stalling issues, cyl 2/4 coil dies randomly as well, sounds like a diesel till operating temp. Random CELs(no codes) Replaced right fron wheel bearing, and ball joint. 3 or 4 new mufflers, and a new radiator. Once it is warmed up it runs great though LOL. Oh, wheel bearings were because it was either head on a guy in my lane on the high way or take the ditch at 100Km/h. I chose the snow filled ditch and went it in 4th at WOT. Also hit a moose with it. No one thought it would live to see this mileage LOL. On the second set of front brakes since new(I think, never touched them myself, had it for a year now) and just took the original Goodyear tires off a month ago.

I picked up a 95 fire 3speed auto
failed etest but I think I may look into getting it around for my GF
360K kms--just under 225K miles
it runs great,which is why when it failed that bad I dont think it is the motor,but a combo of stuff
