Tom... you may wanna check into the timing chain. See if it's still ok. The tensioner might have gone south. Which makes the chain slap around... and eventually break.
For the Ecotec people...... nah, i'm not even gonna say it.

I'm impressed. 2.2L could lasts that long.. mine's 228,000 kms - 136,000 miles on 2200 5 spd. Right now it looks like it needs new head gasket, water pump (maybe) and power steering pump ekk..
Hey everyone, is there anything that I should take a look at the engine? I got a good deal on cylinder head, its only used for 8,000 miles almost new! so should I buy it? because my cylinder head's leaking, I guess it needs new gasket also is it because of warping too? PLEASE help me out here.
Thanks! Merry Christmas everyone too

thanks for all the information guys. much appreciated.

My 96 2.2 had 140,000km on it when i pulled it out and it was running like a dream(engine swap). My 93 2.2 has 125,000km on it and it runs great, no leaks exept the rocker cover was leaking when I bought it(but they leak all the time, simple fix).
Import Fighter - CHANGE YOUR TRANNY FLUID!! Its supposed to get done every 50,000 KILOMETERS, nevermind over 100,000 miles.
Phewes, when we replace head gaskets on a 2.2, we always send the head out to make sure it is not warped, about 50% of the time, it is, so if you can get a really good deal on it, it worth the investment for sure...
gtpsunfire: i had it changed about 3 weeks ago now and i really need to keep up with it. the tranny now shifts like a dream so i am glad i got to it when i did. 75 f*** dollars..

i have 50,402 mi. on my 99 cav. when i bought it in spring 2003 it had about 46k mi. other than regular matainence and the stupid power windows nothing has ever been wrong with it. (knock on wood
