2200SFI is 23 more HP i believe (someone correct me if im wrong) you could always build the 2200 LN2 on the side and swap it for the 97 LN2....if you were to swap, i think transmission is the same, but you would need the wiring harness i believe as well as the engine, duh, and probably PCM. If you decide to, let me know, I have a PCM for a 2200 SFI auto with no EGR, also one for a 98 2200 SFI 5 speed with EGR, and another that was a 98 auto with EGR....might have a harness around here somewhere as well..

Your wrong the 2200 has 5 less hp than the 2.2. Probably be better off buying another car than rebuilding or swapping a 2200

The OP is talking about the pre 98 2.2 OHV, the post 98s came with the 2200 SFI which is a revised version of the 2.2 OHV in previous years. I forgot, you are right, but, its only 5HP and 5 FT LB higher pre 98. Not much at all, wouldnt even be able to tell the difference. Anyway, if it were me, I would go 2200, simply because well, it looks a hell of alot better, i always hated the look of the 2200s, also, i do believe overall they can be built to higher HP numbers than the older 2.2 ohv....not 100% on that but pretty sure. Or, i have seen people doing 2.2/2200 sfi hybrids...

98-02 had 115hp and 135ft lbs

older 2.2s had 90 hp
