Ignition Coil Housing Damage - Any idea how it happened?

Does anyone know how this damage might have occured? I'm worried the new housing will suffer the same fate.

97 Cavalier Z24 2.4liter

They become brittle and crack. Then they burn up... It is common for this to happen. Just think of it as your distributor cap. It is just a regular maintenance part. The new one should be good for a long time. BTW... BWD makes the best replacement ones for these cars.

Alright, thanks for the info. Also, I've already replaced it with a BWD one, after checking out posts on here.
