V6 swap info overload
Tuesday, February 28, 2012 12:17 PM
I'm collecting all the parts/info I can get to start my 3.4 swap... but reading online the 96-97 3.4l had the most power 200-210, is that the best engine to swap into my 03 Jbody?? I already read up on the trannies and such, I need the OHV 5spd.... and i'm going to get the motor mount swaps from a member on here... I'm just looking for the most powerfull 3.4 i can get for the swap and keep it somewhat simple.. is the 96-97 the same amount of work to swap over? or do you have any other sugestions on this?

That 200hp 3.4 is a DOHC engine. Completely different animal than the 3100/3400. It's been done, but required significant work to the car. Get a 99+ 3400 and you are starting off around 185hp. A little work will get you over 200 no problem. Spend some time on 60degreev6.com and you'll see what can be done.

A cam swap, some decent headers and an exhaust will easily net you well over 220 hp. I know of a few mild 3400s that are pushing well into 250whp range with barely any real work done.

Good advice. These engines have a ton of potential without even getting into the block. Personally, if you have some cash to put into it, I might look at doing a 3500 head swap and some higher compression pistons (the 3500 heads will lower your compression a little, but even without compensating, the flow gains are worth it).

yes you should
hahaha

remember just cause it was used in a car or van doesn't mean more power full engine its the same engine just done in tuning. you could do the 3500 heads and the 3400 f body pistons and rods and a cam. mods are endless and depends if you wanna get crazy

Hello 12:1 compression. LOL. Not very practical. Better off getting aftermarket pistons with just a smaller dish than the factory ones.
