LD9 Metal Coolant Housing Yet?!
Saturday, March 10, 2012 2:06 PM
These engines have been out so long. Does anyone know where to locate a metal housing for this engine yet? I cant seem to find one other than to do a RWD setup in a hot rod. I beloieve that also changes the hose connection so it faces upward.
Any help appreciated. All links I found siompy mention "ya, its plastic, repace it" Lets face it; we all should know that by now

ive heard of people modifying the Quad4 housing but i have no pics. But honestly, if you clean the outlet port and NOT slather it with RTV (like so many i see setting in yard) you hardly ever have an issue.

working on GM's for 12 yrs; i've seen what you're talking about firsthand. Was just going to put the new one in, but i figured if i could better prevent a future reoccurence.....

Anyone have a how-to on this before I order one? Looks different(which we already knew), but was curious if I needed a hose barb or anything to make it work.

No how to. There was a thread where a guy was trying to do this but never finished. I have no idea what the name of the thread was to search for though. I do know this it did need modifications.

I know who your talking about. Lol

Ill have it finished this weekend. As mike said there is a hole that needs to be tapped and plugged and a hole cross drilled. Shouldn't take much time.

I happened to glance at an old 2.5L. It too has the "t-stat" housing on the left side. I wonder if that could be made to fit...? It is metal and not plastic.

DSM-looking to finish my engine, so if you have any info or pics you could share that would be appreciated. I know I can get 2.3 housings. PM me if its easier and I'll send you an email addy.

THANKS!
Good luck with the rest of the build. I saw the bearings in your other post.

Was I correct in remembering the model year of the metal housing?

Pretty much all the 2.3s had the metal housing. I bought one for a 93 grand am which is what I use when ever I order 2.3 parts.

It may also depend on what car the motor was in. It would make sense if the 95 js. Had the plastic as the angle on the aluminum one is slightly different
