2004 cavalier 2.2 auto?
Wednesday, June 04, 2014 5:30 PM
I`ve been on and off the site for about 3-4 months now looking around, Finally made a account. Just wondering what I can do to my 2004 2.2 auto cavalier to make it faster but still look stock. I race on dirt so far I have a hp tuner (only changed rev box) I turn it around 7,000+ by the factory tach. But sure just like other factory tachs there off a few 100 rpms. I have a 2003-2004 Saturn vue motor in it right now. But still have the stock head off the car. Did the cheap balance shaft delete and lost oil to the top end of the motor. Other than the loop pipe exhaust for back pressure its bone stock.. Just looking for a little more hp. Thanks for any help

Joel, did you come up with anything? I'm in the same predicament. Running a bone stock 2.2 ecotec on a dirt track and the other cars are running circles around me. I sure could use a few more hp.

Loop pipe for back pressure? Back pressure kills power on these newer engines.

There is a lot you can do to the 2.2 but what you CAN do is likely more limited by the rules you are governed by at the track. Look through your rule book and search the site, there is quite a bit of forum space dedicated to performance projects. There is literally over a decades worth of info on this site, hijacking a 3 post thread from a few month ago asking about gaining a couple HP shows you did very little investigating on your own.
