shift knob

I need clarification.I'm new to jbody and ive spent all day searching for this answer but every answer I see has been muddy. When I pull the shifter knob off a 2001 z24 5 speed, there is a blue undermolding and below that seems to be rubber or foam almost. My question is how do you get the blue plastic off and are there threads underneath that for a replacement knob? I'm looking for clear responses please and none of that read the forums sh*t, I've been doing that all day. Thanks

2000-05 manual shifters are all the same... the knob is press-fit onto the shaft. There are no threads. I don't know what blue stuff you're talking about, but if you can manage to rip the shifter off the shaft you can use a replacement knob that has set screws.. or try to thread the tube. Your choice.

you can thread on almost any knob to the post after the stock one is removed. the blue foam dosnt come out of the knob itself its a cheap substitute for threads.
