disable drl's

i found a post to disable DRL, but only up to 1999. does anybody know how disable them on 2004 cavalier? the 1999 won't work on my car.

This should still work on anything 00+
its the way i did it way back when i bought my car.

Cavie Freak wrote:no dont go there for that info there method sucks. yeah jump the wire then have a light go on casue you did it the wrong way.

here is the proper method. you will thank me later if you have already done the first one.

This is a REALLY simple mod that took me maybe 5
minutes... Disabling the annoying DRLs... All you'll
need is a piece of 16 gauge wire, electrical tape,
something to cut 16 gauge wire, a ratchet & a 1/2"
socket...

Pull the carpet back on the driver side "kick panel"
area & locate the "BCM" which is marked with a white
sticker reading "BCM"...

There are 2 blue plugs & 1 smaller purple plug plugged
into the BCM. Unplug the middle plug by pulling back
the blue tab. It will slide right out...

Turn the plug so that you can see the wire side.
You'll notice that there are 2 sets of wires, 1 is
lightly marked "A", the other, "B". There are holes
for 12 wires in each set but not all the holes are
filled...

Locate the ONLY blue wire of the bunch. Most say this
wire is in "A", however I've known several people,
including myself, who have found it to be in "B"
instead. Either way, it's the ONLY dark blue wire
there & is the one which controls the DRLs...

Now seperate the blue wire just enough from the others
to work with it. Cut it about 2-2&1/2" from the plug &
strip the covering to expose an area of bare wire...

Take a piece of 16 gauge wire and strip the covering
from an area on both ends to expose bare wire...

Now twist one end of the new wire with the end of the
2-2.5" piece of dark blue wire coming from the plug &
tape it up with electrical tape...

Take the ratchet w/ 1/2" socket and follow the
steering column. You'll see 2 1/2" bolts attaching the
steering colum. Loosen 1 of them & attach the other
end of the new wire, then tighten up the bolt. These
bolts make a good ground as there's no paint, just
bare metal...

Now you can tape the other end of the cut wire coming
out of the firewall if you like or just tuck it behind
the carpet...

Plug the plug back in, tuck the excess wire behind the
carpet & you're done!

The first time you start your car after doing this,
the instrument panel DRL light may or may not flash a
few times, mine didn't but others have said their's
have... But they're off, your headlights & corners
work when turned on but the DRLs do not come on &
there won't be any lights on in the instrument panel!

Why does everyone hate DRL's so much? I could care less that they're on except when I come home late and I want to be curtious and not wake up my neighbors (the way the street is, my headlights go right into my friends bedroom >_<

DRL's are nice at night when you see a cop turn around on you shut your lights off and no tail lights but you still have some lights in front and cop losses you just dont hit your breaks or signal when turning off down shift lol

if the cop has headlights, he will see you, and the minute you put on brakes you will make more of a spectacle...
Yeah, he can still see you with his headlights, but you'll be less obvious if there are other cars around, or if you turn down a side street and he didn't notice.
Not something I'd do these days, but when I was younger, I had installed driving lights on my truck and hard wired them to a switch and the ignition, so I could have them on with my lights off, and I used this trick a couple of times without getting bagged. (It still amazes me that some of the crap I pulled when I was younger didn't get my @!#$ nailed to the wall )
It depends, of course, on the situation, area, traffic, etc., but it actually can work if you don't have a car that stands out too much.

wouldn't it be easier just to pull the e-brake one click?

mine come on when i put it in drive, not when i start it. and the e-brake thing still works. since drl's aren't mandatory, i wonder why they would change it.

ebrake trick didn't work on my '02

I did the relay drl disable initially, but that gave me the nifty lil wrench and "service" light in the corner of my gauges

BCM mod is definetly the best way to do it. No side effects at all. Best, and simplest mod I've ever done.

00+ e-brake trick is useless if you still have your stock stereo. The constant dinging will get annoying, lol. And it doesn't always work...after a while they automatically come back on.

Grounding the BCM wire is the best and most effective way of disabling DRLs on the 2k+

The only reason for disabling drls is to avoid cops?
It would make more sense to keep 'em to avoid cops.
You know that you may just be able to have them programed off using a techII at the dealer. I'd say that is by far the easiest and best way too disable them. I'm not sure what years you can do this with but I was able to on my 02 and my buddy had it done along time ago on his 98, sooo. The only prob we had with mine was getting the ECU to save the change which we eventually figured out......

Hey, I did what you pasted and it worked as far as the lights go, but now when I turn on the car, you can hear the computer checking for the drl's and then when they don't get them it automatically gives the service light with the wrench...I tried to unplug the battery for a while and see if that cleared the light, but it didn't. Please advise...anyone who has done this and maybe had this happen and let me know what the cure is. Thanks JBO!!

The only time I had a problem like that is when the wire that is supposed to be grounded came loose when I installed my alarm. Check to make sure the wire coming from the plug is grounded at a good location. Thats all I can really think is wrong, unless someone else had a similar situation, and there is something else wrong.
