depends on how well you take care of it, my 94 Sunbird has 145k miles on it, and shes running great (new head at 138k but even still), if the car's taken care of, fluids current etc, etc, then it could last 200k or more!

the motor should have been shot from the get go..but mine had 195,000 miles and is still kickin pretty strong

ill give it to gm for building a motor that will last so long, wish they would have had a better option for the fuel injectors though in the 95-97 ohv

my car is a girl because I describe her as sexy, beautiful, hot. I look at her curves, and I caress her body once a week with various soaps and sponges. Also, I get in and out of her every day.

it all depends on you really. Beat on it and find out..

It's funny cause you'll hear Honda guys say that their motors last the longest and so will VW guys and any other company based fan.

All honesty, it depends on how it was taken care of and if it maintained well, if it was beat on, if it's alot of highway miles etc.

My old 95 had just about 280,000km on it when my brother wrote it off. Only problem we ever had with it (my dad was the previous owner) was that damned head gasket problem. I think it went once at 100,000km and GM replaced it under warranty, then it went again right after the warranty expired so I kept driving the car like that and it was fine right until the day it was hit.

In a way I wish the car wasnt written off (even though I get a better one out of the deal) because my dad and I were wondering how far the car would go on stock parts. Damn tough motors

I have a 96 2.2 and I'm at 181,000 now and still running just fine. The only problem I had was the timing chain snapped at around 110,000, and that's it. But I am curious now about things that I can do outside of the regular routine to ensure that it stays in good condition. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, please let me know. Thanks!

97 2.2 5spd

ive beat it pretty good, 20+ passes down the 1/4 mile strip

change the oil every 4 thousand miles and im at 83,500 miles and the only thing ive put on it in 3 years is an alternator and a valve cover gasket which were both cheap and easy to fix.....

still runs fine, and gets an amazing 45mpg on the highway

The most I have seen on a car in Ontario was a 93 civic hatch with 530km on it, The most on a Sunfire or Cav That I have seen was 340km on a 96black one a local was trying to sell me 2 years ago. Tough cars if you take car of them, but if you abuse them they do not take to kindly like civics do. It is all based on how well you take care of it. For me its fully synthetic, MObil 1, synthetic fluids all around, Dot 4, regular undercoating, tuneups yearly, engle flush once a year etc etc etc. a small investment makes a huge difference on Jbody's.

01 2200 has 72000 miles on it. replaced two fuel level sensors and water pump. thats the only major maintenance. i've had it since about march of 02. it had about 16000 on it then. been good to me. i need a new valve cover cause it has a small crack in it, but other than that, its all good.

i used to date this chick who had a 95 sunfire with the 2.2l and it had over 230,000kms on it when we went out... i saw her the other day and noticed its pretty close to 260,000kms now, and shes had zero problems... the motor is weak tho, i drove it once and had it floored and it moved about as fast as my z24 at 1/2 throttle...
