last night i was at the track and i was getting ready to launch and out of no where the mass air flow senser blew out and then my cold air intake blow apart at the filter, and the rest of the piping. what could be the cause of this?????

I think the problem is your car isn't supposed to have a Mass Air Flow sensor

Usually stock cars don't have this problem... so either you're running some sort of forced induction or nitrous.... but your registry doesn't tell me anything... so... how about some more details?

i was getting ready to race a BMW M3 with mods, and on the cavalier i have cold air, wet nitrous system, full 2.75" exhaust, bored port and polished heads, throtel body, fuel rail, injectors, pistons, cams. this is the first time in like a year and a half of owning the car that it did this, i had the sensor blow out one day on the way home from work and the RPM's wouldnt drop it kept gaining, so im wondering on what could be the cause of such.

you don't have a mass airflow sensor, the only sensor your intake has is a little tiny air intake temperature sensor..

but on the intake blowing off.......were youspraying nitrous....my friend's foucs had a puddling issue and the fuel blew up and blew his intake off, it was funny as hell to see

You're lucky you didn't blow the welds on your intake

The cav's dont have a mass air flow sensor on them what could be causing it could be a nos building up in the intake

but i have been running the same shot in my car for the last year and this is the first time ever that it ever did this thing and this is the first that i even seen of something like this doin of such. ok if it aint a mass air flow sensor then what is it then that plugs into the intake? i dont think that it could be n.o.s. build up since i havent changed anything since it has bee put on and all, and this being the first time that it did it.

its an intake air temp sensor, IAT, it just pretty much tells the comp what the temp is of the air entering your intake. alot of things change in an engine in a yr, you had a backfire outta your intake, plain and simple, honestly dont know whym for some reason, you had excess fuel and/or Nos in your intake, it ignited and blew your junk off, you just need to figure out why.

its a common thing with eco's, the manifold doesn't like fuel in it, sometimes you puddle, sometimes ya don't, i havent had the pleasure of it yet.....but i will, i know and expect it.

but a workaround to it is to use a direct port kit

sounds like a nitrous backfire to me and #2 the only way fuel would get into the intake manifold is if it was carburated, last time i checked the fuel sprayed into the head and not the manifold. and unless you guy have been watchin to much fast and the furious nitrous isnt flammable until its mixed with gas.

ever hear of a wet kit....DUH it sprays FUEL (thats gasoline) and nitrous into the intake before the throttle body, then it goes into the intake manifold, where sometimes it puddles at the bottom of the runners, then sometimes that fuel ignites, and your intake pops off.......or your manifold explodes, ive seen both happen

It's not a mass air flow on our cars (MAF), it's a Maninold Air Pressure (MAP)...
