So does everyones rust out here? The underneath is is great shape! But this spot just caused me to fail NY state inspection!

I have to have that entire thing replaced or get it fixed (welded) Dealer told me 900 bucks. HA!

I went to a little local shop and he is going to try and weld it wednesday and re inspect it.

It looks like a real pain to replace.. I am hoping it can be welded to get it passed NY inspection.

We are all salt here in NY. The roads are WHITE from salt when the snow goes.

Overall the car in in great shape. Just starting to rust at the bottom of the doors. And under the car is great.. but this spot for some reason is junk. I am driving it the next couple days with no inspection haha. Hopefully the little shop wednesday can weld steel on it or something. I really don't want to change it.

This car is my money saver. My silverado is parked.

Mines got a rust hole behind/below the drivers door. Hasn't been getting bigger, but the car hasn't been being driven. I'll probably have to do something about it one of these days. But at this point it's not affecting the structure of the car. I agree though, salt FTL. And it starts to get pricey when you keep going to the carwash with the underbody sprayer once or twice a week.

I have seen a few now come in to our shop with holes like that, we are also in a spot where a lot of salt is used on the roads in the winter. Another spot where they all rust out is on the rear frame brace that connects the two rear frame rails, they always rust out there in the corners.

i would replace it not weld it. thast the main part of your subframe. a lift and 4 hours of your time you could have everything swapped over

My car may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.
JBO lube - they would never have enough in stock and we'd never see RodimusPrime again

I am living in an apartment and making offers on houses. If I don't buy a house in the next month I have to get a new apartment. I dont' have the time, money, or garage to change it out. I have alot of money sitting in the driveway as you can see from my signature. The cavy is my daily transportation. I dropped it off at the garage and he is going to put a filler piece of metal in there and weld it in place. Hopefully all goes well.

I am supposed to pick it up on my way home from work.. hopefully it will be done and will pass New York inspection!

Done. He called. They bent up a thick plate of steel and welded it on there. They also painted it.

Reinspected it.. passed now.. good to go

He said 122 bucks. Picture coming when I get home.

^ Yeah, they offer it for like 500-1000 here haha. I bet its alot cheaper online. But I also have seen vehicles rust with them installed.

Here it is.. they said they installed steel that was thicker than what GM used in the first place. He apologized for painting it red, he didn't have another color. Of course I didn't care.

Even with snowmobiles, Michigan weather sucks. Freezing ass in the winter & humid like a sauna in the summer. It's never really comfortable here at all.

We can buy that stuff here at Canadian Tire. It's $300 and warranties your car for 5 years free of rust.

Taken From Canadian Tire Website:
Provides total rust protection for the entire vehicle body, inside and out
Used by industry professionals in some of the harshest industrial conditions for 20 years (salt harvesting, mining, aviation, snow removal)
Prevents the onset of rust and inhibits the spread on vehicles that already have rust
Environmentally friendly (chemical-free technology is completely harmless to the driver and vehicle)
One-time installation includes annual checkups
Protects the entire automobile, not just the areas affected by undercoating

Does that actually work? Its a little too expensive to buy just to try out.
