"New"GM - no help with your defective “Old” GM

I ran across this web browsing. I don't really care about the political parts of this read, but thought the information might be useful to anyone with the 3rd Gens. Shouldn't be really surprising, but people ought to be aware tho.

The "new gm" is a big reason why my current gm will be my last gm. Personally i'm just not interested in anything they are doing right now.

Old news. Its why my school can finally fix and drive our EV1, where as with old GM we signed a contract that it would never drive again. old GM doesnt exist anymore therefore contract null. Only new GM that interests me is CTS-V, wagon it would make a great daily and tow vehicle.

what did you expect. GM doesn't care about their old cars or customers. just like Bush doesn't care for black people.

Been a GM owner/driver since I was a kid but I will never drive an obama motors vehicle. Sure hope I can still get parts in the future. Good thing the junk yards are full of them. It really is sad they managed to @!#$ that up too.

Odd..... I got a letter in the mail from GM about my Trailblazer. Since it's so common for the fuel float to go bad and stop reading, they said they'll reimburse 50% of the cost of replacement, even though the truck is out of warranty.

That's big business tied with bankruptcy in the good ol' USA. Gotta love deregulations and laws favoring corporations.

Eh, that's why I chose Cavaliers/Cobalts-easy to fix.

When it comes to automakers, learn to trust no one.

If I choose another GM car (cruze), I plan to know all about it.....

Big deal, Those politics don't phase me. GM still makes the best cars and trucks out there, and I'll continue to buy them....

The new GM is useless as a limp....you know.
I've got round and round with them trying to get my cobalt repaired, but they won't do a damn thing about it.

I'm curious as to how you came to that conclusion...or better yet, how you define "best".

I like cars made in America. So, it's probably Honda from now on.

Um,okay. I've owned more cars in my life than I care to remember. I'm probably twice the age of most posters here..43, so I've owned new and used everything from Aura, Dodge, Honda, GMC, Subaru, Toyota, Chevrolet, Ford, Chrysler, starting to get the picture? I've done a lot of work myself, and also paid to have a lot of work done during that time. also kept a detailed maintenance log of every car and truck I've had. Everything from basic maintenance, engine work, engine accessories, transmission-clutch work, rear end work-if applied, electrical, suspension work, on and on. As the cars come and go I compare the logs, dollar for dollar, time invested, overall car condition at matching odometer readings, etc. And I found that GM came out on top, The least money invested overall and maintained overall higher quality. This is how I define best, as you asked. As far as body styles? It's purley my opinion, but to me GM has had the best overall body styles cars/trucks in it's history than any other manufacturer, again, thats my opinion. But as far as mechanically, my research and personal experience puts GM on top. Hope that clears it up for you....

If OOstickcavi's profile birthdate is correct, age would be 23.
I am a J-Body fan, as I am sure most are or they wouldn't be on this website. Being economical and fairly easy to work on, and parts are inexpensive. Every make & model have their lemons out there, but I've had very good reliability with ours!! :-) Being that the Cobalt is pretty much similar, I'd bet they would be just as good!! :-)
Being 48 years old, tho, I can remember when some Chevrolets that were well known for being real LULUs in their day. In the '60s the Corvair models were notorious for overheating issues and oil leaks. Handling issues were so bad that Ralph Nader published his book "Unsafe at Any Speed", which eventually ushered in all of our automobile Government regulations we enjoy today. No sooner had Cheverolet put the Corvair line out to pasture in '69, than they ushered in the notorious Vega in '71 and later, the Monza series. Ed Cole designed both of those engines for the Corvair & the Vega, by the way. Aside for the fact that these vehicles let down many a motorist in their day, GM in general had major rust issues on most all vehicles made in the 70's. I remember many of them eating away even before the paint had even faded.
Thank goodness, those days are far, far behind us.I am kinda suprised that OOstickcavi doesn't remember some of these less than stellar examples of GM rolling stock, at his age.

From experience they have been alright with repairing my 2008 malibu all my other newer chevrolets ive owned. Ive had around $1,600 in warrenty repairs in that last 6 months and didnt pay a dime. I think it comes down to the dealerships. Ive worked for 2 they are above and beyond dishonest. I had to go to 3 just to buy the malibu. I sat down with a loan specialist at my credit union and got 6% when the lowest a dealership would give us was 13% one even said 17% was the best they could do and they couldnt get us approved without 10% cash down and wouldnt move on the selling price, needless to say we walked out. I paid $0 down got 6% (on a used car) and went though my credit union. To me thats where a MAJOR problems lies. Once the credit union pulled my credit they found the dealerships never even ran my credit score after saying how hard it was to get us approved. They just tried to take advantage of my wife and i. Just my .02 cents. I enjoy my car and am looking forward to the newer model malibu coming out shortly.

Your credit union sold you a loan at 6%? That makes me wonder 2 things. How was your credit and how big were the dealers. If you have sketch credit the dealers prob cannot get better rates from the banks. If they are not a high volume dealer they may not have purchase power.there are also 2 reports you can run. The soft one will not show up on your history. I'm not surprised they didn't move their sales price. If it was a car they needed to blow out if inventory for floor plan sure but otherwise why would they lose money on a car?

I personally have never had a good experience at a gm dealership. They can all diaf. They should have been allowed to fail and rebuild not be bailed out with our money. Good wrench said rules benefit business. I think they hinder it.

I'm 45 and definately remember some of the 'gems' that GM rolled out in the 70s and early 80s.
I think they came off the line already starting to rust.
The Vega and Monza, as Orlen said, were prime examples of a company selling brand names rather than quality.
Some of my favorite cars were the wide track Pontiacs and later the G-series cars. Now that Pontiac is gone, I started to lose interest
GM did improve as time went on but I would have a problem buying a new one from a government owned company just as a matter of principle.

Welcome to Socialism people.
