timing retard ?
Thursday, May 03, 2007 11:55 AM
I know some believe the IAT relocation mod in the library doesn't do much and even though I did this once and then put the IAI back in my wai my question is,does this actually retard timing 2-3 degrees?I am going to run an 80 shot (wet kit) and don't have the money for the msd dis2.

I had this same question myself, the only difference was I was trying to use a reisistor on the coolant temp sensor to trick the ecm into pulling timing.

I don't believe the iat sensor would pull more than maybe 1 degree or so. a little risky if you ask me.

i need to talk to someone who knows alot about coolant sensors and also has a degree in electronics then maybe i will have a solution for the both of us.

this question as far as timing retard might be better answered in the perf. forum but thanks for the input

as far as pulling timing.....if you dont have the cash for msd or a buddy who would let u buy credits to use his hpt. Then I would keep the spray @75. A rough rule of thumb is 1 degree for every 25hp sprayed. Can you get away w/o pulling the timing...sure but how long is it going to last and can you afford to blow the motor?

I totally understand but with the Edelbrock system/kit I have they (edelbrock) only lists jets for an 60/80 shot and I really just want to run one good low to mid 14 run at the track.

Well if you know your fuel pressure you could go to dynotunenitrous.com and use the jet calculator and see what size pills are recomended. but be careful and smart dont get greedy thats when you break parts.

I know you said ur on a budget but If I ever own a 2.4 and do the mani swap I would go DP as it would be easy as pie and it would look mean as hell chillin on the front of the motor... good luck with ur j I dont want to see any "ooops my motor just made expensive noises posts." lol have a good one.

Just my input, ran a 75 on an eco for 5 months with no timing retard. End result, a hole in the back and front of the engine the size of the Grand Canyon.

WOW!Point taken
How often did you spray?I don't use mine often and I also heard that the ECO doesn't work as well on nitrous as the LD9

mmmm..... crunchy!

I can't wait to see what the gm charger plus the 75 direct port is going to do to my motor!

Blue 04 TRD (XLS2K4):::::::::was that a wet shot or dry?

had to be a dry kit. if any of you. have a dry kit i wouldnt recommend going over 35 shot. dry shot is just so inconsistant. run lean just a little bit during your 15 sec run and boom bye bye engine.

Nope it was a wet kit. And I used the bottle... a lot, I was totally addicted to the pull. I went through 100lbs. of nitrous in about a month. And I openly admit, that was a very, very, very, stupid thing. Just remember nitrous didn't blow your motor, a lack of knowledge and abusing nitrous blows motors. Not sure how much fact there is to back up that the LD9 holds nitrous better than an eco, but if that's your opinion, cool. I've had both a Z24 and now my 04, to me the LD9 is not nearly as tough as the eco, just my .02.

Not my opinion, just info I heard with no substantial proof to back it up

See and I heard the opposite. I do believe that the ECO is just a better built engine tho.

back to the original ?,Is there any other way to retard timing other than the msd dis2?Cheaper versions?

So there's different opinions on which engine is better. Big deal, that debate will go on till the end of time. As for the original, no I don't believe there is any other way to retard timing other than msd or hpt. But, I could be wrong.
