Nitrous in my '03 2.2 DOHC cav

Well, I have a 2003 2 door cavalier Ztype.

I've been wondering for quite some time if it would be able to handle a shot of nitrous once a week or so?

How big of a shot?

I work in a shop and can get a NOS, NX or something of the sort for a fairly cheap price.

Just really wanted to know, how big of a shot? And could I get a mechanics shop to install it legally?

I just work in an accessory shop. Thanks guys

I would go with a 75 WET shot with an NX/ZEX/NOS.nothing more unless you can adjust your timing. .. Just be sure to get some colder spark plugs.. read the forum here.

And yes they can install the nitrous kit.. Its not illegal to have, just illegal to use on the street.

Awesome, thanks man. I was thinking a 50 shot, but I really had no idea what the engine could handle. I was looking at either NX or NOS.

look up Nitro(Jarrett Beijer...sp.?) in the members area or look at his time in the Racing Forum(at the top)He ran a 13.3 on a 100 shot with stock internals, window switch, and drag radials. But def. should still retard timing even with a 75 shot.

How would I go about retarding the timing? I don't really know much about my car, I'm more of a truck guy and have just started modding my car, just a full exhaust and 17" rims so far, and a killer stereo.

You don't need to retard timing with a 75 shot. You COULD using an MSD box found on ebay for $150 or so, but it's not necessary. Get colder plugs, run 93 octane, you'll be fine. If you're really paranoid, you can run 100 octane a little safer.

Standard rule from well known members here have told me 1-3 deg. retard for every 25hp shot.Would be safer to retard timing dontcha' think??

Admiral did somewhat answer your question, look into an MSD DIS 2 ignition box, that is all you'll need, unless
you want to get more involved in your setup you could add an RPM window switch which will activate the
nitrous on and off at a set rpm.Colder,non-platinum plugs are a must.

Awesome, you guys are actually helpful with no bickering. Thanks.

Is Ebay the best place to get the MSD box? Not really concerned about price.

I just dropped like 85 bucks on new plugs, but whatever, I can get a new set. What kind/heat range would you reccomend?

One step colder,NGK are probably the most widely used plugs on this site, and there is a MSD DIS 2 I believe in the classifieds for $100,retail is way more than that, like over $200.If not worried about money then try Summit , Jegs, Turbo Tech Racing,or Jason at A+Performance,I think that's the name.TTR and A+ will probably give a good deal since they support the Org.Research this forum and the stickies in detail and you will find more than enough info. on everthing to do with n20.
