How much will hold with 8.9:1 and stock timing
Saturday, January 24, 2009 10:02 AM

I have my motor with wiseco pistons 8.9 compression and eagle rods, Using Megasquirt to tune fuel and 50#injectors. And waiting for a turbo. Meanwhile I'm usign a 75 dry shot and swaping tables, running a 11.5-11.8 AFR all the RPM band. Runs great but the question is.?

How much nitrous will hold with this setup and 95 Octane fuel using stock timing.?

How much nitrous will hold with this setup and sunoco 110 gasoline using stock timing.?

Also I have a 2 step colder plugs.

I'm planning a 125 shot. Will be OK

If the motor is built, I would think you'd be fine with the 125 shot. I dunno for sure though, wait for another to chime in. Make sure your fuel is set right though. You might want to consider setting your PE enable to 100% or somewhere in the high 90's while using a wide-open-throttle switch for the nitrous.

A rule of thumb is to retard 2 degrees for every 100 shot used and a one step colder plug for every 100 shot.

I guess it depends but alot of people i know have ran up to a 100 shot with out doing anything with timing

I think 250 is cqpqble on built motor. I know 125 can be done on stock motor.

I ran roughly an 80 shot with no timing retard and was fine.I agree with John and you may want to look into a two-step or some other nitrous goodies if your going all out

Well, I will try the 125 and 150 shot. I found how to retard 2-3 degrees and will try tomorrow.

thanks

Yeah, look into a progressive controller, spray so much off the line, etc;Did you use MSD to retard timing?

I'm using MS to control nitrous and spraying only from 4000 to 5700 RPM only in 2nd and 3rd. gear.

No, I'm not using MSD, I'm using stock ECU via IAT sensor, according to spark correction tables, time will be retarded 2 to 3 degrees when IAT is @ 111 F or more.

I hope this work as expected.

^ Doesn't sound lie a good way of retarding timing. Do you have HPT? Just retard your timing a couple degrees there.

WIth 8.9:1 static compression ratio, you can get away with more timing than you could on 10:1

add a higher octane fuel to the equation and you can get away with even more

Since you plan on going with a Big shot of nitrous I'd recommend a progressive controller... The sudden shock of 20+ hp in one cylinder can cause very harsh vibrations and vibrations can Kill a motor QUICK
