I think mines about 1.75 where the belt rides. Its too small. Youve got to think in terms of circumference of the pulley and less about the diameter. The alt sits out about an inch farther so youve got to figure an inch less on the pulleys circumference.
2*(pi)*r so 2*3.14*2.25=14.137 inches is the circumference of the original pulley. So figure 2*(pi)*X=13.137 X=2.09 inches
So youre looking for a belt at or around 2 inches where the belt rides. The pulley I bought is 2 inches on the outside diameter but has an 1/8th inch or so of lip on it. It likes to vibrate between the A/C and the alt since its too loose.
Bumping for a sticky out of boredom.
Also would like to clarify that you CAN use your stock pulley on the larger alternator. I did and it worked fine. No problems at all. The vibration I have is from a what I suspect to be a belt tensioner going bad as I still have it after switching back to a stock alternator.
And oh ya. STICKY ME!!!!!!!!!
just finshed building a H.O. AD244 today, will be swapping on my next day off
STICKY!!! STICKY!!! STICKY!!! STICKY!!! STICKY!!! STICKY!!! STICKY!!! STICKY!!! STICKY!!! STICKY!!! STICKY!!! STICKY!!! STICKY!!! STICKY!!! STICKY!!! STICKY!!! STICKY!!! STICKY!!! STICKY!!! STICKY!!! STICKY!!! STICKY!!! STICKY!!! STICKY!!! STICKY!!! STICKY!!!

Dick bastard! Did you get it from Spring Hill Electric?
the bolt pattern on this alt looks very familiar to the quad4 alt.........could anyone compare??
Its very different from any Quad Ive worked on. Those were LD9s though.

along with a new slip ring from a local shop, and a 42 mm overdrive pulley

Damn you Rich Grayo. I need to rebuild mine. How bad was it?
a quad4 alt and a twincam alt bolt on completely different....a quad4 uses 2 horizontal bolts. top one being larger than the bottom on. hence why i said it looks similar
Ah well nevermind then. I figured Quad to Quad was similar. Lemme dig for a minute and see about the interchange.

a @!#$ ton easier than my 130d. the 244 just basically falls apart once you have the bolts out. the 130, everything had to be pressed.

so im going to the yard tomorrow...any way to identify this alt other than just the year car to look for ?
Not really AFAIK.
I couldnt find anything other than pictures of the alts but I do see what youre talking about with them being similar.
Good luck.

. Looks similar to the 130d, just huge and more squared off. A lot of the actual factory cases have ad244 or dr44 stamped on the front.

got it installed tonight, and i must say, it looks huge. also, if you run this alt with the 42 mm pulley, you can use the stock belt
i ended up not using the alternator bracket, it wouldn't let the bolts line up properly. instead i'm using a pair of 5/16 grade 8 bolts, lock washers and nylock nuts.
