Replacing 6x9 Monsoon's - Just making sure.....
Friday, September 04, 2009 12:24 PM
I finally ordered some replacement speakers for my 01 Sunfire with the Monsoon system. Why bother spending the money for stock when I can get better aftermarket for cheaper right?

I read through the FAQ and searched, and I think I have this figure out.

What I'm going to do is cut the connector off my OLD SPEAKER so that I don't have to hack the wiring harness at all. I'm going to splice the two red and two black wires together. Those (now) 2 wires will get connected to the positive and the negative of the new speakers. Sound correct?

You are the scary!!!!! No, there's going to be um,
Left rear subwoofer +: Dark blue/white, pin F5
Left rear subwoofer -: Light green/black, pin F4

and

Right rear subwoofer +: Light blue/black, pin F11
Right rear subwoofer -: Dark green, pin F10

Those are the colors you want.

Ignore the pins, those are off the amp.

haha, FIRE!!!

Good thing I asked before I did it. So if I still want to use the connector off the speaker, I'd would just figure out which wire goes to what you posted above and connect those to the speaker.

Does this mean that the tweeters will not get used in my new speakers?

Here's what I got: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_1086022SI/Infinity-Reference-6022si.html?tp=105

those speakers will work to do what i did jon

the monsoon harness has 2 wires, two red, two black. one set of red and black is shorter than the other though

the shorter goes to the woofer, longer goes to tweeter.

cut the wires from the tweeter where they solder onto the tabs of the speakers and they go to the longer red and black wires instead

My car may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.
JBO lube - they would never have enough in stock and we'd never see RodimusPrime again

Bryan, do you have a picture of said wires? I haven't seen it with the red/black setup yet.

OK, I understand exactly what your saying. This shouldn't be too difficult. Long as the stock amp doesn't drive them too hard.

New problem. The wire colors at the plug end do not match what is in the FAQ and posted above. Guess I'll just have to wire it like Bryan said and hope it works out OK.

Here's what I've got

Left (Driver Side)
Red
Purple
Green/Black
Dark Blue/White

Right (Passenger Side)
White
Yellow
Green
Light Blue/Black

I just wanted to double check that the longer wires on the factory plug are indeed the tweeters. Obviously what's in my car does not jive with what's in the FAQ. I do have the U85 option in my car. I double checked just to make sure.

Yup got everything all buttoned up yesterday. They don't sound as good as the JL's do, but it's 1000x better than dealing with blown speakers.
