Sunfire Db Drag Street A Setup
Tuesday, May 10, 2011 6:50 AM
I've been on this site for quite some time now and have enjoyed reading and seeing everyone's builds, so i fgirued now it my turn.
this is mainly a DB drag dracing build but i do use it on a daily basis also.

This is the car i've been using

Last year i was running a single 12 (TFONE Dual 1's) with an Atomic 5000 watt amp, 2 batterys (one under the hood and one in the trunk)

so this year, im going tyo be running a similar setup, with a few differences. I blew up my TFONE last year at the last show of the year, so i am rebuilding it with a American bass recone kit. Dual 1ohm voice coil, which will be wired down to .5ohm.

Probaly run the same box for the start of the season. 1.8cuft with an 8" round port flaired. Tuning is right around 56hz right now.

my biggest issue last year was my electrical and i was loosing a lot of voltage. so this yeah i am doing a few up grades to it.
I picked up some 2/0 gauge welders cable., did 4runs for + and - from the battery right to the back seat, down to two runs of each to the amp.

i'll post up some pics tonight after work.

take the amp off the back seat put it ontop of box, and angle back seats to almost shut, should be a NICE gain

The angled seat helped in my car also.

no, it lowers impediance rise and forces air up into the cieling and creating more pressure at the sensor, is worth a solid .5-.7

i did that with my vet last year. i used a peice of mdf, and sealed it off with silcone and i didnt see any gains. then after a few months my trunk started to leak casue the vent got pushed out...... wont be doing that one again hahah

got some pics uploaded to photo bucket last night.

new american bass recone for my TFONE that i blew up last year. 3" voice coil, dual ones.

took me a full day to do it, but i got 8 runs of 2/0 gauge through the firewall and run to the trunk.

105ft of welders cable

be pile of stuff that came out while stripping the interior. first time i had ever done it

2 of the 4 cables for the positives. i used pure copper hammer lugs for the ends, and dual walled heat shrink. (positives were wrapped in red electrical tape, couldnt fine any red heat shrink)

and all 4 grounds.

and my supervisor makin sure i did everything right lol

all 8 cables zip tied and neatly run under my seat. creats a bit of a bump in the carpet but ill live with it.

Holy chit! Where did you get that wire, and how much was it?

got it a princess auto. 2/0 guage %100 oxgyen free copper welders wire and it was 4.29/foot.

they had a scratch and save sale on when i bought it, i was lucky enough to get 10% off so it saved me around $50.

I'm not going to buy welders wire unless i can get a good deal on it considering I live less than 20 minutes away from knukonceptz.

Well it was oxygen free until it was cut

What's the conductor diameter? That looks like some very narrow 2/O.

not sure of the actual diameter of it but here's a comparison of stingers 1/0 wire to the 2/0 welders wire i have, mind you the welders wire is a bit fluffed out. i was counting the strands

Yeah I thought it looked pretty close to "standard" 1/O. I'm sure it will do the trick though

Nice dawg.

car audio 1/0 isnt even really 1/0 it should be rated at 2/0, but welding cable goes off actual AWG ratings, so yes, car audio 1/0 anmd welding 2/0 is the same...

@ 1.50 per foot for 1/0 its hard to beat imo

remember though its not pure copper, its cca (copper clad aluminum) basically copper coated aluminum. thats why its so cheap.

so now comes in the question of what is the diffrence in conductance between pure copper and copper clad aluminum...

i will try to find a scrap piece of audio wire and a scrap of welding, and i will get back to you (i will make them the same length)

Quite a bit actually. From what I was told, if you NEED 4gauge for the length/current of copper wire, you want to bump it up to 2 or 1/0 for CCA.

On the other hand....you have other fingers.
