Help! sub recommendations.
Saturday, July 07, 2012 8:56 PM
I got a avalanche.
I have a RE XXX 12" sub dual 2ohm running at 1ohm.
I have a RE 5000.1 amp that's 2500w rms @ 1 ohm.
Also 2 optima redtops.
2 Shuriken BT-45 series batteries.
260amp alternator.
Running all Rockford Oga power wire.
Big 3 with all 0ga Rockford.
2.2cf box tuned to 34hz.

I cooked the sub yesterday.
both coils are visably burnt, they gonna warranty it so no biggie.

But now im lookin for a more powerful sub...
Any recomendations that are 2500w rms or more atleast?

Thanx!

I wanna stick with a 12" dvc sub that can be wired to 1ohm and handle a minimum of 2500w RMS.

Thanks again.

MaxxSonix is trying to pick everyone up so they can try and bank money on the names of products but then cut costs with their build quality... it's a damn shame.

Here's a question is it a legit amp that is deffinently pushing that much power for u to need a 2500 watt speaker its like saying a car has way more horsepower than what someone says and it only being half the horsepower..... One thing that I learned with subs is that they can also be under powered that can cause a sub to blow.... Was the sub ever tested to see what it was rated at and then u will have a better idea on what it can handle and same with the amp I know years ago when rockford punch was really good they use to come with a certificate that showed the exact output of the amp and or speaker which in more cases they could usually handle more than what they let on...

For that much power and a 12 inch woofer I'd recommend the HCCA, DC Level 5/6, Massive Audio DMX, Soundstream xxx and a Funky Pup. FI has issues with tinsel leads burning up. You could find a 3hp motor and recone yourself, or go with a 4hp or 4 inch coil motor.

Ok update.

RE said they will rebuild it and it will be able to handle for power than a standard RE XXX.
It will be done under warranty and will take 2-3weeks.

They said they will renew my warranty for another year and guaranteed me that it will deff hold
Up to their RE 5000.1 amp.

Also my amp is actually pushin 2587 watts rms @ 1ohm.

So i guess its the waiting game now.lol.

Thanks again everyone for the ideas and info and recommendations!

JBO!

You're going to have box rise and other factors causing you not to achieve 2587 watts

Smaller boxes have less impedence rise, bigger boxes have more impedence rise. It's something that's important to keep minimal when you're competing, since it's a single tone. For example, with a bigger box I might burp at 42 hz. Checking on my DMM, even though my coils are dual 1, they might be reading at 5.3 ohms. A slightly smaller box might yield 4.6 ohms. Music fluxates frequencies, as will the resistance to your amplifier. Amp manufacturers put loads onto their amps in a controlled environment to give you your readings. I hope this helps some.
