2003 Cavalier Instrument Cluster Problems

Hey guys, I did a search and nothing came up on this topic. I saw another post about it but I lost it and it really didnt go into much detail. I put a radio and amplifier into a 2003 cavalier. Put everything back together and the gauges dont work. the car starts fine and everything just no gauges. To start off I have checked EVERY fuse in the car including underhood fuses (at least 4 or more times), checked all connections at the pcm, bcm and rear of the instrument cluster, resinstalled the factory radio and still nothing. Ive been doing this for more than 7years and never encountered a problem like this. The only thing I can see is Ive had the battery disconnected for an extended period of time and maybe that did something and it needs to be reset. If any one has any idea thats answer is anything besides checking a fuse or connection your help would greatly be appreciated. I didnt contact the dealer since their service department is closed on sundays and hopefully ill get an answer before i call them tommorrow. thanks

The gauges don't work at all? Or they don't light up?

If they don't work at all... the fuse or some other power is gone. Check the BCM/CLU fuse in the panel.

Is the plug for the instrument cluster in upside down? It'd be hard to do, but it's possible.

I had a similar problem where the guage needles would drop to zeros at random times. Hasn't happened lately though. I think something was shorting out or wires were getting to close to the battery.

Hey, This is to Mike. I've got a 2003 Cavalier, same problem with the dash lights. Could be driving on the highway, or in town, doesn't matter, just all of a sudden the dash will cut out and restart, looks just like when you restart your car. Sometimes the needles will come back up, but sometimes they wont, and they stay down. I've had them stay down and the odometer say error, and also I've had them stay down and the service light along with the pass. anti theft light come on. Very weird, this has been happening since I first bought my car. I've had it in multiple times but the F**KERS at gm dont do anything. They say they cant dooplicate the problem so they cant fix it. Funny thing is, I bought my car with 68 km on it (I'm canadian), and they gave me a list with all the times that the problem was reported, and it was reported at 11 km, before I owned the car. So they sold me the thing new, knowing it had this problem, and now they wont fix it. Its a very aggrivating thing. So, If anyone reads this and has had similar problems, PLZPLZPLZ reply, any insight would be greatly appreciated. Oh, and they tried to con me off saying that the battery posts were just loose. HA not a chance, that didn't fix anything. Its a very strange thing, because it was fine for months! then it will just cut out again...

^^ Calvin, the exact same thing happens in my car. It's been a while since it's happened but I'm just waiting too see those needles drop once again. It used to freak me out, now its just @!#$ annoying, because I spend more time watching the gauges then the road. Let me know if you find a way to fix it.
