i was wondering if it was hard to hook up subs to a stock cd player, cause i like to keep the stock one in, unless i go with a flip screen dvdplayer, but that wont be for awhile. is it even possible? if so what do i need to do?

not sure if many stock cd players have ability to get hooked up to an amp. try a search, i've read this before and someone had made mention of a way to do it.......you could get a nice after market for 2 bills max that would be everything you needed
i have a sony cd/mp3/ with satallite already in my room, but i would if possible like to kepp the stock look. im not a fan of flashy lights always going on my radio, as that all they ever wanna do nowadays
try pioneer or alpine, they'd be decent for under 200 and not have the flashy lights... if you're keeping the stock player, you can still use speaker level inputs if the amp you're using on the subs has them. you'd take your rear speaker wires (assuming your amp is going in the trunk, as the rear speakers would be nearby) and run them to the inputs on the amp. they also have converters so you can use a low-level rca connection, as you normally would with an aftermarket head unit.
You can run a sub off of a stock head unit, I am. My suggestion is to buy an amp that has a speaker/High level input harness. This is litterally tapped into your speaker wires. You can tap them at the harness or at the speakers, it doesn't matter. Your only alternative to this on a stock head unit is getting a speaker to RCA converter, but those generally produce very bad signals. Until you can afford an aftermarket, go with an MTX or Infinity, or any amp with a harness for High level input.

its not that i cant afford a aftermarket head unit, cause i have two in my room, but i didnt really wanna use them, but it sould like i should.
buy a line level converter...it wires up to the harness...you can prolly make it sound good but id just go with the aftermarket
I have subs and an am running off my stock head unit. All you do is go to any decent audio store and but a line out converter. It taps into your speaker wire and creates a set of pre amp outputs. Then, for your remote wire, just hook it up to any accessory in the car that is only on when the key is turned.
I used a PAC SNI-35, pictured below, to hook a powered Bazooka tube, to my g/f's 03 EX coupe stock radio. Adjustable level control. Works fine.

right now i have my Alpine Type-R component set running off an amp, and my subs running of another amp, both with signals from my stock head unit
sounds way better than my $450 JVC deck (sold it)...
hey guys i was just reading all this and i am in the same situation. i wanna keep my stock deck and run an amp off it to one sub. so does that converter hook up to the wires off the rear speakers or would i have to run it to the back of the deck?? either way i think that would be a cheaper way to get some bass since i am on a real low budget lol

oh and another EXTREMLY stupid question since i am fairly new to audio. i have seen subs hooked up to an amp and they play the music with the bass?? seriously i am sure your all gonna laugh at me but like i said i am new. so with this converter i can hook an amp to it and have just bass to a sub??? $#*$ i feel like an idiot lol but i just wanted to clear EVERYTHING up lol

MIne hooked to the rear speaker wires, and by the rear speakers was fine.
This converter will just get the signal to the amp. The amp needs a crossover to only use the low signals. Some amplifiers have a crossover built it.

your subs are only capable of playing low frequencies, so yes, the sub will only play the bass.... there are things like equalizers and most likely a crossover or filter on your amp where you could cut out the highs/lows, but the sub will be getting the full spectrum and playing what's in its range without those.
