You should be able to make an adapter plate to mount them (I know it would be easy with manual windows, haven't seen how much room the power stuff takes up).
I've heard them, and IMHO they sound better than my JL XR653's.
If you have to have rear speakers, why not amped type-r's? Considering how they are positioned, you will probably be able to hear them (probably better than the 6.5s in the bottom of the door panels). I wouldn't want to dilute the sound...

Type Rs are fairly deep, we put .5.25s in my friend's sunfire and3/4" wasn't thick enough to keep the magnet from hitting the glass. We cut the rubber gasket off the plastic 4x6 mounts and used that on the back of the adapter for just enough clearance. He also had to cut out the plastic grill and do some other trimming to the plastic behind the tweeter pods. Dunno how it'll all fit in a cav tho.

Then you probably shouldn't waste your money on the fronts. Just get a set of type-s components that you can power off the deck. They will probably have more clearance too.

Don't waste your money on the fronts?!?!?!?!

70-85% of the music you hear comes from the front speakers. If anything, you should go all out on the front speakers and run your rear speakers from the head unit, if you have rear speakers at all.

I don't have Type-R speakers, but I am considering it comes spring. Everything else I have is Alpine, except for my front speakers which I am not too pleased with. As for an amp that's good, any of hte V12 amps are amazing, but fairly expensive. The fully-digital components make a noticeable difference at high volumes, but probably only to a very selective listener.

Whats going in....

Alpine IDV300? the Alpine in dash touch screen - already have it
Alpine Type R 6.5 inch copnents - already have them
Alpine Type S 6X9's fot the rear - picking them up in a couple hours
Alpine V12 MRV-F340 - already have it
Alpine Type R 12's (2) in a sealed box - next weekend
Alpine V12 1000 watt rms mono amp - next weekend
Alpine remote control for the head unit - got it yesterday

Bigest problem is making the Type R's fit, I'm gonna install everything and take it to get profesionally tuned.

I had 6.5" Type R's in my old car...

Cut door panel...

Mount speaker..

Mount 6x9 grille over the 6.5's to cover the stock ugly grille...

Of course.. the flash makes it look worse than it really did.

Finished panel

Of course.. that car is long gone now

A few more suggestions.. when making the bracket, make sure you transpose the factory bracket and the hole you need to make for the speaker. If you just make a square with a hole in it, you will hit the door on the pop screw thingies.

On my phoenix gold 6.5's, I went with 1/2 inch first to see if it'd clear the window.. didn't work cuz the basket was too big and hit the door so I took a piece of 1/4 in wood and fit it over the 1/2 inch.. cleared the window and has just enough space to keep the speaker from hitting the door panel on excursion. At first it scared me, but its fine now, though I wish I would have went with 5/8 inch wood for that added security.

i dont have the alpine type rs but my boston accoustic rc620s fit fine behind the door panel, and the tweets are mounted on the mirror triangle pieces, unless the magnets are gynormous then they should fit with some modification..

I doubt he's planning on creating the bracket to place the speakers at an angle, therefore, 70-85% of the sound coming from the front speakers is hitting your leg, while the sound from the rear speakers deflects off of the back window an has a straight shot at your head. Have you ever noticed that when mounting components in the front with the mid-bass drivers in the lower door, and the tweets in the A-pillar (or similar), you have to almost mute the tweets to hear anything resembling lows?
Now, if he wasn't using rear speakers, by all means, go all-out in the front.
So basically, from my experience, I feel I've heard much more sound from the back with front-lower door and rear deck speakers
