I'm talking about headroom here. The subs would only be wired down to 2ohms too you might have noticed.
I understand headroom and room to upgrade later on, but if the guy is on a budget enough to not be looking at higher end subs, why spend the money on an amp with 4 times the power he needs? 250-400 RMS at 2ohms is easy as hell to find cheap as dirt.
On the other hand....you have other fingers.

you can only get 400 watts with that amp....look for something between 800 - 1000 watts rms at 2 ohms..

It completely applies.
Bridging is when you take both channels of a two channel amp and 'combine' them by using the + of one channel and the - of the other. (usually, the amp will tell you how to wire it)
If you're running one sub off a two channel amp, then yes, you are concerned with the bridged rating.

actually you are both right and wrong....if that makes any sense. Reason i say this is because for the OP it doesn't apply because hes using a 4ohm DVC sub..which he will not be able to bridge....but brad did properly explain what bridging means....oh and if he had a SVC 4ohm sub then it would apply...

oh I misread what you posted. You're right, he won't be able to bridge it unless he gets a 2ohm DVC or a 4ohm SVC OR a 2ohm bridgeable amp.

ahh, I understand now, bridging seems more complex then I had thought. So to power this 12" I need an amp that can put out 800 rms or more at 2 ohms. correct?
