"security feature"

Just picked up a 98' Z24 with a odd "feature".
In order to start the car you have to hold down the left turn signal.

Whats this about?

*think* Ok so our cars have 3 ignition, one accessory, 2 constant power and a starter wire. Now if someone fed one of the ignition wires to the turn signal switch and then to the car, then it would only start if the turn signals were on. I hope they put in a relay and a diode.

its a starter kill...thats kinda cool as long as a relay was used....which im sure it was or it wouldnt work.... I worked on a maxima where teh car wouldnt start unless you pressed the side mirror switch to teh right.... thats just there to prevent some one from stealing your car

someone could really use this when they have a push start and bypassed the key itself. is that possible?

switch in between the ignition switch and starter wire.

but if u have a special security feature where you had to hold something down, im pretty sure nobody would go around holding things down trying to start your car.

I agree, I think its a pretty smart idea, but more than likely, if anything is going to get stolen, its going to be the contents of the car, not the car itself.

Its stupid because your "secret" wont be a secret very long. One person sees it and that can go a long way.

please, if you are the only person to drive your car, when you hop in, you just turn the key while pushing down on the turn signal, you can do that pretty stealth without anyone noticing.

If one person does, you can play it off like its nothing. Something you just do... or whatever.

You're going to need a few more things to get it to work with Passlock.

I kind of like the idea of a security feature like this. If I did one, I'd try and put an override or turn-off on it so if I had to leave the care with someone or have someone else drive it (that I didn't trust), I wouldn't have to give the secret away. Good luck with it.

The only dead give away is every time you start the car... your left turn signal is on.

ya but we could do something with say the dimmer switch cause when u first get in ur car, ur light is on and when u start it it goes off.. it wouldnt be too noticable.

So explain how youd do it when you have to say take your car in for service?

Re: "security feature"

well what kind of service? cause i do mostly all my own work... and i could just leave the key hooked up so that i have both but not "HAVE" to use a key.

It seems like a lot of work for something that you arent gaining anything out of. You still have to carry keys to get into your car unless you plan on leaving it unlocked all the time.
