Thursday, January 20, 2005 10:05 AM
I own a 2005 sunfire, and i have 3 subs and 1100 watt amp with a 2.4 farad cap. I had it installed in my old car (2004 sunfire) but i do not think that i had a good ground at all!!! does anyone know where the best place to ground a system is on sunfires 2003-Up?????

Frame

Scrape the paint away.... then bolt to the frame.

where from the inside (the trunk) can i access the frame? the place i bought it from told me that but i could never find a place in my trunk that if i drill threw i hit the frame.....somewhere in the wheel well? i ended up scraping paint under the carpet, on the left hand side and drilled threw.......i was able to see the ground threw the hole so i needed to get a washer for the other side so that the screw would tighten......but i am pretty sure that is not the best solution......

if any one has pics of their ground i would really appreciate it!!!!! thanks in advance!

we don't really have a "frame", our cars are uni-bodies, so the trunk under the carpet
is technically part of the uni-body so you should be fine, that is where mine is.

rear seat belt bolts are best (for ease of access)

but it was too cold for me, so i just used the antenna grounding point.
Spare tire bolt works too.

I ended up putting my ground in the spare tire well. Works fine for me until I clean up my wiring.

I know this is an old thread but I am in the same boat you are right now trying to figure out a damn good grounding point. I'm running about 1500RMS throughout my whole system, 1/0 power cable and 1/0 ground, but I want to make sure the ground is as good as possible. I'm thinking of drilling a hole in the bottom of my tire well and right beside the spare tire well there is a beefy piece of metal I was going to bolt too.

I just thought I would see where you eventually bolted too and how it worked for your setup.

It's all metal... there isn't really one spot that is going to work better than any other.

I put mine in the wheel well for the spare tire....just move some of the fabric back and drill directly into the metal.

Make sure you sand any paint off the metal and use some dielectric compound to keep it from rusting or anything.
