Im thinking a spec stage 3+ and a fidanza flywheel. But if not the flywheel then ill just send mine to the local machine shop to shave a few pounds off it.
I have a fidanza flywheel. No issue for a couple years now. I have installed a couple others with no issues. I know others have had issues as well. I remember not too long ago someone post that Spec no longer uses Fidanza, and has there own. Might want to check into that. I love my 8.5lb flywheel!!

Avoid the fidanza like the plauge. My buddy Paul (N/A MADNESS) shed count it 3 of them in the exact same way as the one in the pic. I just had mine lightened alitle. You are shaving quite a bit of rotating mass with the 2.3 swap plus the lightweight crank pulley you have and then a few more with the lightened stock flywheel. The way I see it any more than that would make it much more touchy when trying to take off.

good advise wade. thanks. now is there a clutch that anyone has come to settle on thats good? when it comes to spec its either great or bad. Ive personally had a spec clutch in my old escort and i had no problems with it. Yet again i didnt keep the car long so i dunno.

I have had nothing but great things about Spec clutches. Installed 4 of them all still going no issues. They range from stage 1-3+. It seems the plus clutches last long than nomrla stage clutches/

no offence or anything but if you installed 4 of them thats not saying anything good about them. How often do you go through them?

Uh, I think he meant he has put them in four different vehicles, not all in one...
I've had no issues with mine in the year-plus it's been in there *knock on wood* and have installed one on a buddy's car. Far as I'm aware he's happy with his as well, no issues there.

Sorry maybe I should have been more clear. I have installed 2 spec clutches (stage 1 and stage 3) on isuzu 2.4 cars. A Spec stage 2 on my 2.4 getrag car, and a Stage 3+ on a Ecotec getrag car. All but the Ecotec have been going for years no problems.

Flaw in the design causes them to break. That happened at about 4500 RPM in first gear. Put a stock flywheel back in and would never think of going back.
ok so stocker flywheel with a few pounds shaved off it and a spec stage 2 clutch should do me fine then right?

im wondering why the exhaust valves on the 3rd cylinder look different than the rest. also the piston in the 3rd cylinder has less carbon build up on it than the others too. the 3rd rod bearing is bad also.

i so called it being the 3rd rod bearing.. was that the only thing or was the lifter bad too.

I have not done the swap yet, just collected the parts when I heard they were hard to find. Now that my motor has a spun rod bearing, I have a reason to start using up some of my parts collection

the best way to find the 2.3 oil pump swap stuff is in a junk yard. most of the parts are dis-continued and not even available through vintage parts LLC anymore either. NOW... you CAN find a VIN number off the right 2.3 car and have the dealership plug the number in and do a search for said parts that OTHER dealership across the country may still have in stock. i have found a few parts by doing this that some have said were completely gone and 'un-attainable'.

Are you scared of the changes coming? The answer is on the inside.
