I started to build up an old ln2 I had in my sunfire. I made a manifold for a Garret T25 I had lying around. Everything is up and running, 5 psi of boost I figured would be a good point to start at. I've got a wideband controller (JAW) which I hooked up to keep an eye on whats happening. The car would go lean under boost (15-16 AFR) so I rigged up a water/meth. set up for it. I tapped a 1psi pressure switch into my intake manifold and hooked it up to my windshield washer pump. The pump feeds a windshield wiper nozzel located right before the throtle plate. Now when I'm in the boost the car stays nice and rich (12 AFR) and it cools my intake at the same time. I'm running regular windshield washer fluid (costco brand) and it seems to do the job. Does any one have any points or advice on my set-up and what to look out for.

Neither the windshield washer pump or nozzle are designed to atomize the methanol.

I'm using a shurflo pump and a 4gph nozzle from mcmaster carr.

Atomization is important, especially with our intake manifolds.

If you don't want to do any fuel tuning, at least set up a FPR.

you need a high pressure pump just like snake mention....the meth pumps are usually 150psi and the washer pump would be much lower (I have heard 60psi, but not sure if that is 100% true)...there could be a good chance your just dumping a bunch of liquid into it and therefore not getting a good atomization of the meth and water and therefore its not going to do its job properly. As for the mixture, I'm using 99.9% pure methanol (methyl hydrate) from canadian tire and mixing it will distilled water for walmart. Makes almost 8 liters for around $10 canadian. I'd be interested to see what kind of spray is coming out of the windshield washer nozzle....its probably close to a solid stream of fluid which is bad. It should be a nice even, fine mist. Anyways, you should definately look into a high pressure pump and nozzle.

Your set up is pure fail. And you are a cheap ass. Normally I get so irritated by half assed cheap hack jobs I don't even bother posting, but I am feeling like helping so here goes.

As already stated the winsheild washer pump was never designed to produce enough pressure (150-250psi) to force the methanol mix through the proper injector needed to make it atomize properly so as it stands you are running a huge risk of puddleing.

Once again the winsheild washer fluid sprayer nozzle was not designed to withstand the pressure the proper pump produces as well as the fact that the hole is way to big to atomize the fluid again leading to puddleing.

I have never heard of a (JAW) wideband and I would not trust it if it is telling you that running winshied washer fluid is dropping your AFR from16-12.

Also with a properly set up alky injection kit it is reccomended to set manual on/off type boost switches to come on at 3/4 of your max boost.

I can't believe you were even stupid enough to think this would work. Did it ever occur to you that a winsheild fluid washer setup will spray a big low pressure stream of winsheild washer fluid whereas in contrast aan actual alky injection kit will spray a very fine mist. I mean really how the hell do you overlook that or notice it and think no big deal?

Let us know when you have a real alky injection sytem. OK Until then don't waste our time.

By the way I'm not a ''Cheap ASS'' I'm just not scared to think out side of the box. Anyways I didn't join this forum to arrgue with people like you.

-My windshield washer set-up seems to be doing the job however. I can hold a AFR of 12-13, it only goes a little lean when I nail the throttle for a split second.

And for those interested look up www.14point7.com. Its web site dedicated to wibeband controlers for the DIY kind of person. You need to know how to put a PCB together but it's not rocket science I put mine together in under an hour.

Looking at your profile it looks like you are also not tuned. Get a real Meth kit and a tune and maybe that little LN2 will stay together.

Tinkles; No im not tuned. At some point when I have a chance I would like to put to gether a MS1 kit so I can tune it right. For now I'm just looking for a not too expensive fix so I can drive the car and have some fun before the winter. I'm not plaing on spending a crazy amount of money on this project. I bought my kit in the classifieds, keep an eye out, they pop up sometimes. Check any meth site for a price on a pump...cooling mist has one for $99.

Your best bet would be to get an enitre kit...but I'm sure you could piece things together on your own. Looks like around 250 for a new kit from cooling mist and around 300 from snow performance.

As for the mixture, I do a 50/50 meth and distilled water, which I think is the standard mixture.

As for nozzles, most of the companys sell them individually depending on your setup/power. Not that this is the only site that has them but just some reference to what I'm talking about:

Anyways, I think that gives u a little to look into. I would suggest taking the washer nozzle out and activate the mump to see what the spray is like...when I checked my nozzle/pump it was a very fine mist and thats how it has to be to work or else your going to get puddling. Hope this helps.

And in response to the A/F target, it seems many tune for around 12. Every car is a little different, you have to get it on the dyno and find out what works best for you. Some people suggest a target of 11.8:1 A/F, but on my car it still had knock with that A/F, brought it down to 12.2-12.4 and I have no knock now (mind you I wasn't really worried about longevity) but the car seemed to run a little better that way.

Talk all you want I've been running the car for 2 weeks now.

Just to clear thing up with everyone, I'm using my car to test out and try all the crazy ideas that no will else will try. I only posted to see if anyone had any good ideas d'not bother blasting my ideas. So far they've all worked!
