so what turbo are you going with? I picked the GT3071R because it was water cooled......adds lots of life to the turbo. If you are looking for a dependable, long lasting build, i would consider a water-cooled unit. theres a reason all the factory turboed cars run them....

I decided to go with the same turbo that Chris was running. It is a smaller unit than originally expected, but it will spool very nicely and still give me the power goals i have planned. Me and Chris worked out a deal, where he will be doing a full tubular manifold, the turbo, a 2.5 inch downpipe, tial 38mm wastegate and an open wastegate dump. He said it should take around 4 weeks, so when its done i will be picking it in person. We were emailing back and forth for a while, trying to figure out what would be best for my goals, and budget. I decided to let him get the turbo and wastegate so it would be easier, and everything will fit better. When everything is done, i will post mock up pictures.

Just giving everyone an update. Been talking back and forth with Chris at RD Fabs, everything is tacked up, but the turbo i decided to go with is back-ordered, but Garrett said that they should see it shortly. Once the turbo gets there, everything can be fully welded, and then i will drive and pick it up. I will post pics when i get it on the motor.

I am trying to finish up everything for the bottom end, and i will most likely be buying the ARP main studs, and Cometic Head gasket next week. As far as oil pumps go, I heard about doing the M98 pump and screen for more volume and pressure. My concern is, is this a direct swap, will it be enough, and what / if any other oil pumps are out there that you guys use and have had good results with? Thanks

Can't wait to see the updates/pics. Have you figured out your route for tuning?

I know i will need HPT for the car, but i want to finish the little things for the motor. I recently got ARP Main studs. I was told i will need a full standalone for the car, but i havent really looked into tuning as of yet. If i do decide on a standalone, i dont know if i should go with a mega-squirt unit, AEM unit, or what else is available. I thought you could tune through HPT so if thats possible that would be great. I also decided on an AEM wideband, and most likely will be going with the Greddy Pro-fec B controller

Chris had mentioned because of the manifold design, the turbo would be sitting lower, to help with cooling, and i might have to remove the AC. Im glad i have a spare motor on the side for the build, so i want to have as much done before i swap it in. I know you can run and tune the motor outside the car, so thats what im looking to do.

You don't need a standalone... You can run the LD9 Reflash just fine!

Update: today i picked up the Melling M98 High Volume pump, screen kit, and new oil pan. Test fitted it with the ARP Main studs, and it looks like everything should line up just right. Compared to the stock oil pump, you can tell some major differences between the two and i am happy with the M98 pump.

As far as the turbo goes, i should have it within 2 weeks. Chris will email me when tney get the turbo and we can set-up a day so i can pick it up. Will post pics too

Ok guys, will be getting the turbo early next week, Chris had emailed me a few pictures and said everything is ready to go. I am very happy with the pictures, and cant wait to actually see everything. Here are the pictures from Chris, but i will post more when i have the turbo myself. The work-manship just looks amazing, and am very happy i decided to go with them for the build.

Well today was the big day, meet up and picked up the turbo set-up. Ryan was such a nice guy, and gave me many ideas for my build. But everything looked great, mounted perfectly, and nothing was needed to be modified. I was very happy with everything and will def be considering him for future parts/builds. I got home and mocked it up on my spare motor, the one i am building. Anyway on to the pics!

Next on the list of things will most likely be total seal rings, and then its fuel system or i will start building my 4t40e. Yes I am staying automatic!

Looks tight but......

This picture makes it look like you are going to have radiator clearance issue's from where the waste gate sits.

Its a good possibility. I know I have very little clearence between my turbo(and dump tube), and my radiator.... Had to change fans because of it...

Yeah Ryan had mentioned it might be very tight with the radiator fans. I will be doing a Griffin style radiator and plan on doing different fans as well. Im guessing a custom mount will have to be fabricated, but im not worried about it, i have enough fab skills to make something up. Also depending on what cooling fan i go with, you can put the fans on either side of the radiator, depending on how much room is there. He mentioned there will be modifications needed to make everything fit nice, esp with the hard cooling hoses, and perhaps with the radiator.

O_O

that looks AMAZING!

this thread has totally changed my opinion of the 2200.
i cannot wait to see this done..

in the mean time, i'm going to start looking for another 2200 and an engine stand

vinny, roughly how much did the mani run you?
Re: Boosted 2200 Build

Josh, the manifold was $650. Ryan was a very nice guy, and honored the price back from the GP when they did these manifolds. Just let him know what turbo you are running, and he will customize the manifold to your needs. The manifold is made from stainless pipe vs tubing, and is alittle thicker to handle the weight of the turbo. The manifold is pretty heavy but looks amazing.

I would def start looking for a spare 2200 motor, thats what i have, while i still use the car on the side. This way i can just swap everything in when its all done. I cant wait till its done either, i know its going to take a while still, but when its done its going to be bad-ass!
