300 on a stock eco
Friday, August 29, 2014 9:00 AM
By spring, maybe sooner I'm planning on picking up the portfueler. I was thinking about ordering it with the 15psi calibration and getting the 15psi WG spring. After getting it all together I was gonna have everything blended with hpt. I'm not exactly sure how much power I'd be looking at but I figure it would be around 275-300hp? (Crank) with these kinda boost levels and a good dyno tune do you think a completely stock eco could handle it? Opinions? Btw I have just a stage II hahn kit

300 is doable on a stock engine as long as it's healthy and your tune is solid

I know Ryne did it a long time ago with just an fmu. But I figure between the portfuler and hpt it would be smooth enough for it to not be to hard on the engine. I just don't wanna break a rod or ringland on the dyno tunin it

This is key. People have made more and gotten away with it. In the GM build book they mention that the stock l61 rod gave out at 250hp but they were beating it hard with nitrous.

The fact that they broke it at 250 makes me nervous. but nitrous is so instant I feel like it's allot harder on an engine than the gradual build of boost.

Yeah that's why I say they were really beating on it. I have to think with just boost you'll be able to hold more.

That being said I dumped my l61 in favor of an lk9 for this reason. I was making 250 on the nose. I tend to lean on the cautious side but in reality just run it and if it blows up, get another one from the yard. They can be had pretty cheap now.

Yeah around here a good used one can be had for like $400. If it blew it wouldn't be a problem gettin a new one or fixing it. I'm just wonderin how long I'll be on barrowed time.

I beat mine on @ 283 whp for over a year and many 1/4 mile passes one being a 12.6 and motor finally let go after signal line going to waste gate developed a hole and I poured the power to it that day

I have tunes a bone stock ecotec to 314whp on 17-18psi. Motor was beat the crap of for a year or more like that before the ringlands gave up.

It is all in the tune.

Stay tune for updates tomorrow as we shoot for 350whp on a internally stock L61.

I guess ill just have to trust my tuner. He's done plenty of cobalts but he said he's never done a 2.2. I need to find a place who has experience.

You'll be fine with a solid tune as stated. My car was boosted at ~55k was tuned by QWK CAV. Made 249whp on a blower....then i sold the kit at 100k 3 years ago...and while it burns a little oil my motor is still in one piece and sees 6500rpms on a regular basis.

I figured if I had the portfueler he couldn't get I to too much trouble. He actually specializes in ls motors. Having the portfuler wouldn't it make it simpler for him?

So today we proved 405whp on a internally stock ecotec is possible. Drive to the dyno and from the dyno.

That car is badass! I saw that thing on Instagram a couple weeks ago. Pretty sweet. Well after that I shouldn't be worrying about if it's capable. Now I just have to put my faith in my tuner.

I hate you! Come tune mine! Was this on an Eco PCM with HPT?

When are you getting it over with and getting mega-squirt or some other standalone?

This car I tuned is going to megasquirt. It is just running on the factory ECU for a little while and to prove a point.
