gatorback belt
Tuesday, February 15, 2005 4:06 PM
i got the gatorback belt that was recommended for replacement of the stock supercharger belt. i put the 2.7 inch pulley on this weekend and installed this belt and it squeels under load. I took the belt off and put belt conditioner on it and it still squeels under load. it is a very annoying squeel that is loud enough to be heard on the highway going 70 with the windows up and radio on normal listening level. When the car is at idle there is no noise. i finally couldn't take the squeeling anymore and put the stock belt back on and am just taking it easy with the 2.7 on. i was just wondering if i got a bad belt or if there is another problem.
thanks
scott

my sister has one on her GTP and it sounds just fine, maybe the belt is a little loose or too tight just have to play with it.

It seems to be about the same slack as with the stock belt and pulley. It is definately not slipping. Are there any other belts that people have tried? I need something so i can run these smaller pulleys without slippage and squeeling.

what belt are u using???? imean what part#, i would think that the stock belt w/the 2.7 pulley would be ok, i was using the 2.7 pulley from day 1 w/the stock belt and had no squeeks or squeals

I've got the belt too but no pullys or what not... very quiet. Maybe your tensioner or idler pully making those noises...

I have the 4050729 with the 2.7 pulley and as far as I know I'm not having any slippage issues.

No squeaking noises either

You think that belt would work with the 2.6 too? Is it special order at autozone like the 4050722 one was?

4050722 with the 2.7, hard to get on but well worth it. No slippage issues at all. I tried stock s/c belt and it slipped.

I went to autozone to see about getting belt #4050729 and the belt listed for $109. i was wondering if this is a special order belt for another application like the supercharger kit or if the price was listed wrong? The 4040722 belt is only$20.

yeah i have the 4050722 and that is the one i have major squeekign issues with. maybe i have a bad tensioner or supercharger idler pulley. the 4050729 belt was brought up in this post and i was just wondering why it listed at $109.
