Will this actually Pass Inspection
Wednesday, February 09, 2005 8:46 AM
where you live? I know a State Inspection Station in NJ would have a 'field day' with it. They'd probably impound the vehicle on the spot and make you walk home.

I'm NOT trtying to be an ass or anything, but before others go out and do the same, some things to 'think about.'

Gasoline, Battery, and Nitrous , electrical connections, etc. all in same area that is common to the interrior, could be ' very interesting', and dangerous. For some reason I can see the posibility of a fire or an explosion.

Even on race cars NJ requires a 'steel firewall', minimum size straps (also of steel, I think) bars around the cell, external vent, and a restrictor in the feed line so only a "No Lead' nozzle will fit into it. Plus they actually check the gas cap.

There are no inspections where I live. This car dose not see the road much, maybe a total of 2-3 months a year.

I am not recomending others to do the same. I am just a gear head like all the rest of you and thought I might share racing modification for a change of pace. I know it is illeagal to do this stuff in other states. It probably is illeagal here, but they don't enforce it much. I want to build a car that I enjoy on the road or off the road It doesn't mater where.

Out of the race cars that my friends and family have built, they have been legal for the track. Gas, battery, nitrous, yes these things are dangerous whether you are careful or not. That is a risk factor even for a person who uses it safely. Just as dangerous as driving down the road, you can't control who might smash into you.

From the factory cars are equiped with batteries near the gas tank, and there a electrical connections no mater what for the fuel pump, injectors, nitrous solinoids, racing or stock it is all the same. Ofcourse there has to be thought and care put into something like this for the safety of you and others, and there is the right way and the wrong way to do something. I usually use the right way, by asking experts questions, Reading, and common sence.

I have taken your thoughts in to consideration prior to the installation of this system. I have created the setup with extreem care and caution for my safey.

This system is vented externaly and I even plan on using the stock emissions device (charcoal canister) . It is also fixed in to place, welded structure, and bolted in to place. The straps are better than what the speed shop wanted to sell me. I am fabricating a fire wall. We can use leaded gas on the track here. I also plan on using the stock fill tube. The battery will use a NHRA approved box.

Once again I Do Not recomend this installation to anyone without the experience and knowledge of this type of equipment, or for use on daily driven and inspected vehicles.

Just think as this post as an article in a racing magazine for leisure enjoyment.

Cool, no harm meant, and obviously you didn't take it that way, Good Luck with your project.

"Just like driving down the road, you can't control who may smash into you", truer words were never written, some @!#$ backed into me 'TWICE' at a Stop sign yesterday !

Well, no codes. I made sure to plug all the stock emission sensors in and every thing works great.

brandon, I don't have the canister hooked all the way up with the lines and all, but the sensors are and they don't know the difference.

JayP2k, we sure do have some good times man, we should all get something together.

eli ireLanD9, yeah, I stll have the stock tank. I would be happy to get rid of it but I dont know the best way to ship it, especialy where I am at right now. shipping will determine the price, unless you are close enough to carbondale IL, to pick it up. I would say 75-80 bucks for it would be ok. Let me know what you think and some options to get it to you.

not sure if that would affect handling as much as the fuel being behind the rear tires instead of in front

I haven't had the chance to find out shipping. I am going to talk to the shop that I get all my stuff from and see what would be best. I will try and find out in the next couple of days. I have kind of a hecktic schedule. Sorry about the down time.

Crazy Dude

Not really worried about the serious handling aspect of it yet. They do however make adjustable suspension kits that help. I just plan on experimenting with a bunch of different ideas and equipment at this point in time. I am not looking in competing in any road/rally races any time soon. Besides I can't accelerate out of any turns at this time because I have a serious traction problem with the turbo comming in the way it does.

That and it is not any different than having a huge ass audio system back there. I got rid of a full fiberglass setup that porbably weighed more than the stock tank wet.

SpeedRacerZ , Thanks man, I need to quit spending money on other things so I can finnish the other engine I have started. lol.

LowFire, I do have the old sending unit, but the gas gauge sender is bad. If you are still interested that is cool. I just don't want you to end up with a piece of junk. By the way, how much different is the pump you are working with? Because, I have a Holley 255LPH pump out of a Grand National that was a direct replacement.
